The Great Outdoors

Brunet Island State Park is one of the closest state parks to Chetek and consists of over 1,000 acres of woodlands on an island in the Chippewa and Fisher rivers. Fishing is also popular, and this is a great spot to catch walleye, catfish, and yellow perch. If you enjoy hiking, there are over eight miles of trails to discover. This state park covers 1,000 acres of forests along the shore of Lake Wissota, a 6,000-acre human-made lake. This lake is ideal for swimming as it features a 200-foot beach. Other water sports, including kayaking, waterskiing, and fishing, are also popular. Catches here include sturgeon, bass, and panfish. There are over 20 miles of walking trails to enjoy, and the park contains over 200 species of bird which you can spot along the way. You can even pick up a checklist at the park office to keep track of what you've seen. If you're visiting during the winter, there are eight miles of skiing trails and over five miles of snowmobile trails.There's a whole host of forests to explore when you rent an RV near Chetek, and another popular one worth visiting is Flambeau River State Forest. One of the most popular activities at this park is rafting, due to the river providing some rapids which are ideal for beginners and experts. Fishing is also popular in the Flambeau River and nearby Connors Lake, and catches include walleye, trout, and musky. Hunting is another favorite activity for visitors and locals, and many hunt black bear, white-tailed deer, and ruffed grouse.

Exploring the City

Chetek is the closest city to Chetek River Campground, and while small, it does provide motorhome campers with a few restaurants and shops. However, if you're looking to experience one of Wisconsin's beautiful cities, consider a short drive to Eau Claire. One popular attraction for kids is the Children's Museum of Eau Claire. This museum features a ton of fun interactive exhibits that the little ones will love. These exhibits include a tiny city where kids can learn how society operates, a water-works where they can play with pumps and pipes, and so much more.Alternatively, if you're looking for some family fun during your Airstream rental vacation, consider a stop at the water park in Eau Claire. This indoor water park is ideal for year-round fun and contains several rides for kids, including a lazy river and aquatic play area. Adult rides include a water slide that features lots of exciting twists and turns. There's also a two-story-tall tubing ride which leads through dark tunnels and can be ridden with a friend so you can enjoy the thrill together.If you want to learn about Eau Claire's history, plan a visit to Chippewa Valley Museum. This museum is focused on teaching visitors about the area through artifacts, historic buildings, and stories about the lives of locals. You can visit the Anderson Log House to see one of the oldest Scandinavian-built houses in the state, or stop by the 1900's ice cream parlor and indulge your sweet tooth.
