Owner Advice for Fifth Wheel Adventuring in Lithia, Florida

Steve Waldrop’s a BMX racing boondocker who loves to travel with his family. rv host rents out fifth wheelSteve lives in Lithia, Florida, a picturesque town about 25 miles from Tampa. Steve rents out his fifth wheel–a 2011 Keystone Laredo–on Outdoorsy. In this post, he’ll share some of his favorite Florida tips.

Outdoorsy asked Steve where he would send a friend who was headed to Lithia, Florida for a fun outing. He’s what he said:

One of our favorite places to camp, Alafia State park, is actually just a few miles from our house and is about as good as it gets when it comes to state parks in Florida. The camp sites are really large, the facilities are well kept and the staff is extremely friendly. In addition to the great camp sites, it also boasts some of the best mountain bike trails the state has to offer, winding through gorgeous Florida landscape and wildlife. Watch out for the gators!

If anyone wanted to venture out a bit further, I’d recommend they go north to the incredible springs of Alachua County or south to the gulf beaches. Florida has a seemingly endless number of options to anyone looking for some adventure.

We asked Steve where his #1 destination would be if he had a week off. Here’s what he said:

Our next trip as a family (that isn’t BMX related) will be Blue Springs, located in High Springs, FL. The kids and I made a day trip up there while mom was traveling for work and and we checked out the camping spots on our way out. Definitely have to get up there soon.

Finally, we wondered about what big events people travelled to his area of Florida for.

People love to camp at events like Nascar races in Daytona. The SUN ‘n FUN INTERNATIONAL FLY-IN & EXPO, in Lakeland, FL gets pretty busy for us here locally as well. Florida is an extremely popular location for large events, drawing people from all over the world who all need a place to sleep. Renting an RV for an event tends to be more convenient and often less expensive than getting a hotel. It’s a good fit for sure.
