For Jared and Melanie Shipwash, purchasing an RV has been a fabulous decision. “Our daughter has been doing competitive cheer most of her life,” Jared explained. “About 4 years ago we played with the idea of getting an RV so we could use it for leisure and travel for cheer. However, it wasn’t until August of 2017 that we actually made it happen.

“We decided to sell our house in North Texas (due to through-the-roof house values) and build another house. After selling the first house and living with my parents for a couple of weeks, it was apparent we needed our own space quickly. That’s when I went out and purchased an RV.

“Living in it was very, very interesting, but by the time July 2018 rolled around, our new house was complete and we had basically spent a full year in an RV.”

The Transformation

Having finished playing the role of a temporary home, the Shipwash trailer was then transformed into a cheer-mobile and leisure travel vehicle. You’d think this would be enough—however, it didn’t take the clever family long to see that their RV could do even more for them.

“We came across Outdoorsy a few months before our home was completed, and after reading over what Outdoorsy was all about, we thought it was worth a try,” Mr. Shipwash recounted.

The Joy of Renting

Since that fateful day, the family has never looked back. “The process of booking our trailer through Outdoorsy is very clean, straightforward, and comforting in a way that it didn’t require us to worry or overthink the little details because they were already handled,” Jared told us. “I feel very comfortable with Outdoorsy and the policies in place. Additionally, the customer service has been very good at answering my questions and concerns over the phone.”

While the Shipwash trailer has only been listed as a rental for a little over a month, it has been very successful so far, bringing in around $1200 already. “Who would’ve thought I could turn what could have been a camper sitting on my parents’ land going to waste into a nice side investment?” Jared wondered aloud. “We still love to use it for personal leisure, but we love renting it out even more.”
