Owner of the Week: Erik Mallon

Erik Mallon is a stay-at-home dad. “We have three amazing kiddos: Elisabeth (7), Emily (2), and Carter (18 months),” Erik tells us. “I also watch a few kids, so I run daddy daycare.”

We all know that staying home with the kids is hard work, but it doesn’t pay the bills. Even with money coming in from the home daycare, the chance to make an extra buck while still staying with his kids did sound appealing. “We decided to rent our RV out to help with the monthly payments in hopes of making a little extra on the side,” says Erik.

That said, the Mallons did have some initial hesitations about renting their RV. “We wanted to get an RV for years, finally biting the bullet and buying one in 2015,” Erik explains. The family has had a huge number of adventures in their beloved rig ever since. “Heck, we even lived in it for 2½ months in 2016 when we were building our house,” Mallon shares. The family obviously loves their RV, so it makes sense that they were worried. “Our biggest concern was, what if something happened while it was rented out?”

2015 Keystone bullet

Fortunately, Erik found Outdoorsy. “We chose Outdoorsy because it sounded like a great platform that took care of its partners and renters,” Erik tells us. “The RV being covered by insurance put us at ease. I feel like we are covered if anything were to happen to our camper.”

Another benefit of listing the RV with Outdoorsy? It was rented out pretty quickly! “Renters started coming in within a week or so of listing,” Erik recalls. Since then, the Mallons have made over $30K renting their trailer through Outdoorsy.

Making money is, of course, one of Erik’s goals for his rental business. That said, it isn’t his only goal. He also has hopes that his rig will do for others what it has already done for his family. “I hope that our camper gives renters the opportunity to make memories that will last a lifetime,” Erik says, “that families will be able to go and enjoy the great outdoors and just slow down and spend a little time together without all the distractions of the world!”
