Mike Morgan may have some tiny RVs, but he has some big advice to go along with those little trailers—and considering his rental success, we’re happy to listen to him.

This wise RV owner listed his tiny T@B trailer for rent back in 2018, choosing Outdoorsy as his rental platform. “Outdoorsy is a well-designed platform with great character,” he shares with us. “They do a great job of advertising and promoting my rentals, and we had bookings within a month or so of listing.

“By the end of the season, I’ll have hit 50 rentals and (hopefully) all 5-star reviews! During our two years of renting, we’ve brought in over $13,000.” On top of all that, Morgan has also added a second trailer to his fleet: a little T@G trailer.

How did Mike do it? He cites customer care as his key to success. “For me, it’s all about customer service and relationships. My bottom line isn’t money. (Although, this experience has been very profitable). My philosophy is that nothing is more important than the renters having a good experience.”

Mr. Morgan gave us an excellent example of the service he likes to provide: “When we couldn’t get the lights to operate using a renter’s vehicle during the handoff, I was able to tow our T@B myself, following our renters to their campground,” he recalls. “While this added hours of extra time spent, we ended up getting to know each other, and I was able to help them back into the campsite and get everything set up.

“What could have been a disaster ended up being an outstanding experience. This couple was so grateful, and they enjoyed their trip and gave me huge hugs in the end. I love this part of renting out our camper.”

Another great example of a time Mike really connected with a renter is his story about Jane: “Jane was such a delight,” he says. “She was a newly retired single woman who wanted to experience camping in our T@B Teardrop. She chose our delivery option, and I’m so glad she did! I brought my wife and our two boys along for the delivery. They loved meeting her as well! We enjoyed chatting and getting to know Jane as we also walked through the T@B setup.”

“Before leaving, and to our surprise, she gifted us with two amazing jars of homemade jam. They were delicious! Not only was she such a delightful renter, but she also so sweetly connected with our boys, as well as my wife. Jane is such a warm and caring woman. Someone we won’t soon forget!”

So, what is Mike’s advice to owners looking to provide outstanding customer service, make those meaningful connections, and perhaps get some extra profit along with those things? “Be patient with renters’ questions,” he tells us. “You want to provide them with easy-to-understand information and always invite them to reach out with questions. Also, instill confidence in each renter. They are nervous to take your rig and want to take care of it. Help put them at ease and encourage them as they take on this responsibility.”

To finish out our interview, Mike left us with one more bit of advice: Use the Outdoorsy platform. “I highly recommend Outdoorsy to all my friends. We’ve had a great experience and have learned a lot. I also love that so many people get to make special memories using our camper.”
