Owner of the week: Shaun Warren

Shaun Warren has been camping for years. He started in a tent but eventually decided to move on up from that setup if only a little. “I wanted a small upgrade from the tent,” Warren tells us. “I wanted walls around me with some air conditioning and an outside kitchen.”

He wanted all of this but didn’t want it to limit him. “I wanted to be able to tow with a smaller SUV and go just about anywhere,” Shaun explained. “This teardrop (NuCamp T@G Boondock Lite) seemed to fit the need for the price and usability.”

As it turned out, this tiny trailer was the perfect pick and Shaun has had lots of great adventures in it. “My favorite memory was taking the trailer to Colorado with my girlfriend at the time. We had no plan and were figuring it out along the way. It was the end of October and we got snowed on a few times, but we still boondocked almost every night.”

Clearly, Warren thoroughly enjoyed his new RV, so why did he end up renting it? “I never intended on renting the trailer,” says Shaun. “But I used the teardrop probably 6 or 7 times a year and it was just sitting [the rest of the time], so I found Outdoorsy. I thought, ‘I can try this out and see how it goes,’ and well, it has been the best decision I have made. I listed in late winter, and as spring was starting to come around, I received my first booking.”

According to Shaun, one reason he’s had such a positive experience renting his trailer is that he listed it with Outdoorsy. “I chose Outdoorsy for their outstanding reputation and reviews, and the Facebook Community made me feel more at ease,” Warren tells us. “I feel very safe, as every person was great along the way and I was sure to ask the proper questions to understand each renter. Outdoorsy also has their own screening process. They check renters’ driver’s licenses, which makes me feel good about renting.”

In Shaun’s opinion, one of the most important parts of running a rental business is communicating with renters. “Good communication with each renter is very important,” he advises. He also shares that he genuinely enjoys connecting with other campers, and this good communication actually results in some friendships. “A lot of my renters think like me, which is nice and creates lots of discussion before and after key exchange.

“I enjoy renting through Outdoorsy because I can meet each and every renter face-to-face and make great money doing it!”

Besides making new friends and a few extra bucks, Shaun also hopes his trailer helps renters find a new way to enjoy camping. “I hope my trailer helps people realize you don’t need an oversized camper that’s like a full home on wheels to go camping,” he says. “It’s all about the adventure and staying outside as much as possible. This camper has an outdoor kitchen and an awning that both help keep you outside.”
