Located south of Hinton, West Virginia, along Bluestone Lake, this US Army Corps of Engineers park has to be your next camping destination.
There are plenty of things to do at this COE park, one of which is angling for a wide range of fish species within New River and Bluestone Lake. At this park, there are no boat motor size restrictions for boating enthusiasts, ensuring that boaters can come along with their various watercraft and enjoy exploring the park’s waters. Even more, hiking, horseback riding, and cycling opportunities are available at and around the park. Picnics at this park are also special. Also, the abundant wildlife in the surrounding waters and wildlife management area make wildlife watching, bird viewing, and hunting a popular sport in the park. Nearby attractions include Bluestone State Park and Pipestem Resort State Park.

Bluestone Lake, located south of Hinton, West Virginia is an easy COE park to locate and access by cars, trailers, and RVs, owing to the network of highways and roads that connect to the park. You can link the park from Interstates 77 and 64, West Virginia Highways 3 and 20, as well as other local access roads. Even more, there’s ease of navigation within the park. Reservations camping

Bluestone State Park

There are 120 pet-friendly campsites available within four campgrounds at Bluestone State Park, offering wonderful opportunities for a lakeside retreat for RV campers. These campsites are available by reservation and feature electric and water hookups for RVs and trailers.
The campgrounds are open from spring through fall and offer recreational opportunities such as fishing, mountain biking, boating, and nature viewing. Amenities available include showers, boat ramps, picnic tables, and a Marina.
RV/trailer length limit at the campgrounds is 50 feet.

Pipestem Resort State Park

There are 82 pet-friendly campsites available within four campgrounds at Pipestem Resort State Park, offering wonderful opportunities for recreation and camping for RV vacationers. These campsites are available by reservation and feature full hookups, electric-only hookups, and no hookup sites for RVs and trailers.
The campgrounds are open year-round and offer amenities such as heated bathhouses, coin laundry, campground store, playground areas, and many more.
RV/trailer length limit at the campgrounds is 40 feet.

In-Season

Boating

The 3.2 square miles of water surface available at Bluestone Lake offers the chance for water recreation enthusiasts to enjoy various activities that range from boating to skiing and paddling in their watercraft. Also, there are no boat motor size restrictions at the park, which means that RV campers and visitors can come along with any watercraft they have and launch on to the lake. Boat launch ramps are available at different areas in the park for easy access to the lake. Online boating courses are available for campers before visiting the park.

Fishing

Bluestone Lake offers anglers the opportunity to experience the best warm water fishery in the whole of the State at the New River. Every year, this river provides game fish species in its warm waters more than other warm water rivers in West Virginia.
Fishing records show that white bass, striped bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill, and catfish are commonly caught fish in the river. Crappie and muskellunge are also commonly found in Bluestone Lake and New River. In addition, Bluestone Lake and New River are regularly stocked by the State of West Virginia.

Wildlife

Wildlife enthusiasts always enjoy their visit to Bluestone Lake for the numerous exciting opportunities that they have to see various wildlife in their natural habitat. Thanks to the ease of access to the Bluestone Lake Wildlife Management, campers and visitors can watch fauna, and more importantly, hunt for game in the area. Popular game species available include white-tailed deer, turkey, as well other small game populations. West Virginia hunting laws and Corps of Engineers guide hunting in this park.

Off-Season

Trails

Opportunities to enjoy the use of trails available at and around Bluestone Lake abound for RV campers and visitors who would love to explore this US Army Corps of Engineers park. Hiking trails are available at the nearby Bluestone State Park as well as the Bluestone Lake Wildlife Management Area for hikers to explore the area surrounding the lake. Even more, cyclists can ride along the main roads in the park as well as the day-use areas and the campground areas. Horseback riding opportunities are also available at Bluestone Lake Wildlife Management Area.

Picnicking

This US Army COE park features a day-use picnic shelter located by the shore of Bluestone Lake, which is a hotspot for groups, large gathering, and plenty of outdoor fun for RV campers and visitors. The picnic shelter which is ADA-accessible features restrooms, electric and water hookups, as well as plenty of space for parking. In addition to the picnic shelter in the park, there are several picnic sites with picnic tables if you want to enjoy meals on your own.

Bird Viewing

Exciting bird viewing opportunities are available around Bluestone Lake for campers and visitors who love to watch and take photographs of birds. The mixed hardwood forests, riparian areas, cliffs, and old fields present along the Bluestone National Scenic River serve as good habitats for a wide array of bird species.
