Introduction

Sitting within a region that is popular for the presence of natural gas, oil, and coal, East Lynn Lake is surrounded by wooded hills that rise gently around the lake, presenting scenic backdrops for camping and recreation. This US Army Corps of Engineers park, located 12 miles southeast of Wayne, West Virginia along State Route 37, can be reached easily by RV campers and visitors.
As a hub of recreation, RV campers and visitors can engage in various fun activities at East Lynn Lake. Some of the things to do at the lake park include boating and water skiing, angling for diverse fish species, hiking along scenic trails, cycling on the main roads and the campground areas, and horseback riding in the backcountry areas. Lovers of wildlife also have their share of the enjoyment by taking photographs of beautiful fauna, as well as hunting game in designated hunting areas. Moreover, picnic shelters and tables are provided for group and individual meals. A designated swimming area is also available.
Tent and RV camping is open at the campground in the park for vacationers to spend time and enjoy the use of amenities such as showers, flush and pit toilets, potable water, and a dump station. Electric and water hookups are also available.

Driving

East Lynn Lake is located 12 miles southeast of Wayne, West Virginia along State Route 37, and can so be easily accessed by vacationers and visitors coming in their RVs, trailers, and other motorized vehicles. Navigation within the park is also easy. RV and trailer equipment are available for rent around Huntington and at Chief Logan State Park.

Parking spaces are available for vacationers and visitors at and around East Lynn Lake for their RVs, trailers and cars. Overnight parking facilities are also available.

Reservations camping

East Fork Campground

East Fork Campground sits on the shore of East Lynn Lake and consists of pet-friendly campsites that are open from May to October, but available by reservation between May and September. Water-skiing, boating, hiking, picnicking, and hunting are some of the popular recreational activities at the campground.
Offering 167 campsites, all of which are equipped with electric hookups, this campground features 151 water hookup sites. Campground amenities include showers, flush and pit toilets, potable water, and a dump station. Other facilities available include an amphitheater, boat ramp, playground, volleyball, and basketball courts.
RV/trailer length limit at this campground is 80 feet.

In-Season

Boating

Boating enthusiasts can make use of the launch ramps that are available at three different points at this park - Lakeside Recreation Area, East Fork Camping Area, and Lick Creek Launch Area. These points are the ideal place to begin boating activities on the lake. Besides boating on the lake, another common recreation activity that campers and visitors engage in is water skiing. Both activities make the park a popular destination for water-based recreation enthusiasts.

Fishing

The excellent fishing opportunities at East Lynn Lake invites visitors and campers to test their skills at the park. Anglers can decide to fish from the lake shoreline or from boats on the lake, with both opportunities offering equally exciting experiences. At this COE park, 29 fish species have been identified and recorded, some of which include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, striped bass, walleye, and channel catfish. Other game fish in the lake are trout, red-breast sunfish. You’ll need to possess a West Virginia fishing license to angle at the park.

Trails

Hiking and biking opportunities are open to all who wish to explore this COE park. The hiking trails within the park are located at the Lake Side Recreation Area, the Visitor’s Center, East Fork Camping Area, and Lick Creek Launch Area, each offering a unique experience.
Although there are no designated bicycle trails at the park, riders can make use of the main roads as well as the campground areas. Some areas in the park are also conducive for off-road bicycling. Horseback riders can ride along some of the backcountry areas in the park.

Off-Season

Wildlife

The fauna at East Lynn Lake invites visitors to enjoy wildlife viewing and hunting within the park’s areas. The East Lynn Wildlife Management Area at the park, which is jointly managed by the Corps of Engineers and the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources, is open to wildlife enthusiasts to pursue their interests, be it photography, viewing, or hunting. If you would like to hunt at the park, you will require a West Virginia Hunting license. Common game includes turkey, white-tailed deer, squirrel, bear, and rabbits.

Picnicking

The picnic shelters at East Lynn are ideal for group gatherings, be it with family or friends, and fun-filled picnicking. There are four lakeside shelters at the park located at the Below Dam Recreation Area, the Lick Creek Area, and the Overlook. All the shelters can be reserved and can also be used on a first-come, first-served basis, and have modern amenities. If what you desire is to enjoy your meal by yourself, you can make use of any of the picnic tables available in the recreation areas.

Swimming

There is a designated swimming area provided at the East Fork Camping Area at East Lynn Lake for use by campers and visitors. Because of the recorded incidents related to swimming in the lake, all swimmers are required to be cautious and practice safe swimming.
It’s best not to take chances in the water by overestimating your swimming skills. Moreover, it’s safer if you restrict your swimming to the designated swimming area provided.
