Public Transportation

Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) provides public transportation in the city as well as the surrounding counties. From local streetcars to the main RideKC System, getting to the park from anywhere in the metro area is relatively easy. Besides being next door to the park, the Village also has a pool, hot tub, game room, showers, and a camp store. Each site also has free Wi-Fi, satellite TV, and a patio with a picnic table and charcoal grill.

Nearby

Some campers may not want to sleep near the blinking lights of the park. Luckily, there are quite a few campgrounds nearby that can help them.

Watkins Woolen Mill State Park has 96 campsites (74 have electricity) with showers, laundry, and restrooms, as well as a dump station. Parking pads vary from 38 to 80 feet, so be sure to check this when making your reservation, which can be done up to six months in advance.

RVers can also reserve a spot at the Kansas City East / Oak Grove KOA, just 30 miles to the southeast. With 80 sites that can handle rigs up to 105 feet long, a pool, mini-golf, and a playground for the kids, this is a popular place so reserve your spot early.

Getting around

Since the lot is so close to the park, Worlds of Fun does not have a tram or shuttle to pick up guests and drop them off at the gate. For those with mobility issues, the park allows wheelchairs to be brought from home, and they also have some for rent at the rental center near the entrance. However, these are first-come, first-served, so there is no guarantee that they will be available. Strollers are allowed in the park as well for those with small children.

What to pack

Clothing

Be sure to pack for the weather depending on what time of year your trip will be. The weather in Kansas City is typically hot in the summer and cool in the spring and fall so pack accordingly. The typical attire at Worlds of Fun is t-shirts and tank tops with shorts or jeans. However, in the cooler months, hoodies and jackets are fine too. Just be sure not to wear anything bulky that will impede the harnesses on the rides and wear comfortable shoes for walking.

Gear

For those who plan on riding the rides, do not bring anything big like a backpack or purse unless you are going to rent a locker. Many people wear a fanny pack that can hold a wallet, keys, and phone with no problem. If camping in the park, leave the big stuff in the rig. It is not a long walk back to the Village if you need something.

Health & Safety

RVers may want to keep a first-aid kit in the rig, which is important for general safety and convenience. But when out and about, it is also a good idea to have a pocket-sized mini kit that has bandages, antiseptic, aspirins, etc. Also, grab a trial-sized bottle of sunblock to keep in a pocket or fanny pack. Insect repellent is also good for the campsite to keep the mosquitoes and ticks away. Wear a hat and sunglasses to protect you from the sun and bring some water to stay hydrated as well.

Where to eat

Cooking

The park provides a charcoal BBQ pit at each campsite for those staying in the Village, so cooking indoors or out, they have you covered. Be sure to always have the basics stocked up like eating and cooking utensils, aluminum foil, and baggies. It is also a good idea to be prepared by keeping a portable grill or camp stove in the rig just in case.

Restaurants

Want something other than carnival food? Or maybe you just want to take the family to town for a nice sit-down meal. About seven miles down MO-210, RVers can find several restaurants including Asian cuisine, a burrito place, an American café, and a casual spot that specializes in breakfast food. For those in the mood for Cajun cuisine, look for options on US-69 about four miles to the west. If you head up I-35 to the northeast, you can find Indian food, an alehouse, fast food, and a pizzeria.

Vendors

Speaking of good food, Worlds of Fun prides itself on the variety of cuisine they have at the park. Out of the 40 eateries, there are several fine dining establishments where visitors can get a stellar meal made by executive chefs and served by friendly staff. For those who just want to grab and go, the park has kiosks scattered around that have hot dogs, burgers, and snack items as well as cotton candy, funnel cake, and ice cream. Don’t forget to stop by and check out the unique gifts and souvenirs at the shops in the park.

Safety

Security

The security of their guests is important, so Worlds of Fun has enhanced security procedures such as metal detectors and extra staff in certain areas. All bags and purses are searched, and it is possible to be randomly searched at any time during your visit. The best thing to do is to read the rules and regulations online and make sure not to bring any of the prohibited items with you.

Weather

Typical weather in this part of Missouri is usually hot during the summer with highs in the upper 80s or lower 90s. The lows are usually in the middle 60s or lower 70s. Rain is possible just about any day and is most probable from May through September, so bring rain gear and download a weather app if you don’t already have one.

Medical

Worlds of Fun provides help for those who need first-aid at Guest Services by the main entrance and two first-aid stations in the park. One of these is by the Timberwolf ride and the other is in Oceans of Fun by Surf City. Emergency medical technicians are available at both stations while the park is open. In addition, there are several medical facilities within a five-mile drive of the park in Clay County.
