Xponential Festival

If you’re heading to the New Jersey area in your RV, be sure to stop by the Xponential Music Festival for three days of great music, food, and fun.

Event information

Xponential Music Festival is an annual music event that takes place in Camden, New Jersey. It is produced by WXPN, Philadelphia’s award-winning public radio station. The annual lineup features over 30 different bands and musicians every year.

The festivities are held over three days at Wiggins Park and BB&T Pavilion. This area is located right by the river, so guests can enjoy beautiful waterfront views as they take in the world-class live music. Established international artists as well as up and coming musicians bring the stages alive with their music every year.

The performances take place on three different stages set up across the festival grounds. Artists who have played at Xponential Music Festival in the past include Blondie, Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Fantastic Negrito, Harmony Woods, Adia Victoria, Angel Olsen, Alabama Shakes, Buckwheat Zydeco, Band Of Horses, Aaron Brown, Counting Crows, Ben Folds, Aimee Mann, and Ben Vaughn.

The event is open to guests of all ages. There is a kids corner where children can enjoy fun activities like face painting, science-to-go, and live music. Vendors will be selling delicious food, drinks, and other handicrafts. The festival celebrated its 25th year in 2018.

Tickets

Xponential Music Festival tickets can be purchased online. Single-day passes go on sale a few months ahead of the event. Tickets to the shows at the BB&T Pavilion and those at Wiggins Park are available separately. You can choose to buy both if you’d like to watch the concerts at the two venues.

There is also a three-day “Go Everywhere” pass that will give you access to all three-days of performances at both the venues. Discounted tickets are usually available to WXPN Members.

Transportation

Driving

Camden, New Jersey is across the Delaware River from Philadelphia and is almost completely surrounded by various waterways. Be prepared to cross a few bridges and have cash for tolls in your travels to the area.

The drive may take you less than 15 minutes in good traffic through Philadelphia, or you might travel along I-295 to come near the venues in Camden. Monitor road alerts for Camden County and the surrounding areas. Be sure to call 511 or check the event’s social media pages before starting on your trip through Pennsylvania.

Parking areas

Organizers work with various parking lots in the area to offer discounted car parking to guests. Driving directly to the venue may not be the simplest choice, especially if you’re in a larger rig because you may have trouble finding place to park. You may want to park your motorhome at your campsite and use public transportation to reach the venue.

Public Transportation

The easiest way to get to the venue from across the river is by hopping on the Riverlink Ferry. It runs once an hour, and there is a stop right by the entrance. Another option is to take the light rail and get off at the waterfront stop. Public buses and ride-hailing services also operate in the area.

Where to stay

Onsite

Onsite camping options are not available at Xponential Music Festival. Book a spot at one of the RV parks or campgrounds in the area well ahead of time. Sites tend to sell out closer to the festival dates.

Nearby

Brendan Byrne State Forest is a just under 40 miles away and offers primitive RV camping. Showers and flushable restrooms are available. If you’re looking for a campground with more facilities, Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA is a little closer and may already be along your route from the southwest. It has sites with full hookups, WiFi, and big rig access.

Getting around

You’ll need to get around the festival site on foot. Individual vehicles or four-wheelers will not be allowed within the performance areas. Both BB&T Pavilion and Wiggins Park are wheelchair accessible and have plenty of pathways. The parking lots associated with the event have a limited number of accessible parking spaces.

What to pack

Clothing

Dress for hot summer weather at the Xponential Festival. Pick lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton or chambray in light colors since darker hues tend to absorb the heat more. Wear a bandana or a hat and sunglasses with a UV filter to protect your skin and your eyes. Comfortable, flat shoes are a must.

Gear

Carry your sunscreen with you and reapply it as needed. A blanket or low-backed chair is also a good idea. Coolers are allowed, and you’ll be able to carry in a small amount of food and non-alcoholic beverages. Don't forget the gear you’ll need for any outdoor activities you want to enjoy, like hiking, swimming, or fishing.

Health & Safety

Drink water frequently to stay hydrated. There will be a filtered water station onsite. Make use of the misting tents available on the grounds to take breaks from the sun and cool off in the hot summer sun. ATMs have been available in the past at both venues, so you may not need to worry about carrying enough cash.

Where to eat

Cooking

If you'd like to cook at your campsite, it’s best to take a small portable grill and ensure you have enough gas for the stove in your RV. Campgrounds in the region may not allow open fires if there is a burn ban in effect. If this is the case, easy to cook meals and refrigerated sandwich fillings can come in handy.

Restaurants

You won’t need to head to Philadelphia to find a good restaurant; there are plenty of great options in Camden. If you’d like to enjoy a great view with your meal, choose one of the many waterfront establishments. You’ll also find some excellent Korean, Vietnamese, Italian, and Mexican food in the area. Try the delicious Banh Mis, the saucy Enchiladas, or the spicy Bibimbap.

Vendors

Xponential Festival is known to display a wide range of delicious food for music fans to enjoy. Every year the festival organizers work with the local food vendors to bring the best regional flavors to the event. In addition to favorites like hot dogs and pizzas, there will also be more exotic offerings as well as plenty of vegan and vegetarian food.

Safety

Security

Camden County police and traffic officials will be responsible for the security of the venue and the safety of festival patrons. Trained firefighters will also be available onsite. In the past, guests have been required to have a WXPN Member wristband to exit and re-enter Wiggins Park at will. Re-entry is not normally allowed at the BB&T Pavilion.

Weather

Visitors to the area are often treated to hot, sunny days during New Jersey summers. Keep in mind that you’ll be right by the water, so the temperature is considerably cooler at night, thanks to the breeze blowing into Camden. Carry a small umbrella or a rain poncho to be prepared for sudden showers.

Medical

Trained EMTs will be present at the medical tent close to the main entrance of the Xponential Festival. They may also be stationed throughout the grounds to take care of any emergencies. If you need immediate assistance, you can flag down a staff member who will be able to coordinate with the medical team.
