Smyrna is a city in Cobb County, northwest of Atlanta, Georgia. The area around Smyrna was first settled in 1832 and a small religious camp, Smyrna Camp Ground, had established itself by the late 1830s. The religious camp became a popular tourist destination in Georgia. The area itself, including the camp, continued to grow and was known by a few names, such as Varner's Station and Ruff's Siding, among others.
