Getting Outdoors

Tustumena Lake is a popular fishing destination since this body of water is home to many fish species. Five species of Pacific salmon reside in these waters. Additionally, anglers may catch rainbow trout, lake trout, char, and sockeye. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game stocks the lake regularly to maintain the fish population. The fish in Tustumena Lake can grow quite large, and anglers who are up for a challenge love to fish here. Also, make sure you have all of your fishing gear packed in the RV rental because there are no bait shops near the lake.

Camping at Tustumena Lake

Kasilof RV Park is the closest campground that can accommodate long vehicles. The campground itself is not large and has only seventeen RV sites. However, it is well-maintained and equipped with all the features you might need during your stay in the area. If you plan on going motorhome camping here, you will have access to showers, restrooms, laundry facilities, picnic areas, and free WiFi.

Exploring the Area

Kenai is a lovely community surrounded by mountains. The European settlers came here hundreds of years ago and built this place from scratch. Nowadays, Kenai is a popular location for salmon fishing, and tourists often visit it during the warmer months. Should you happen to be camping at Tustumena Lake, don’t miss an opportunity to see Kenai. Those that visit usually start their day at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center. It is located just outside of the city, so you may stop by on your way to Kenai. The Visitor Center is a great place to learn more about the history of this part of Alaska. The Kenai Cultural Exhibit is quite interesting to the visitors because this permanent installation has hundreds of historical artifacts.

“Tuck” was more than what we imagined when we booked the camper. Erica and Sam poured their heart into this camper. We had an incredible time exploring Alaska for a little over a week. This trip was made possible because of Tuck. Tuck came fully stocked with cooking gear, lounging chairs, plenty of water to shower, space to store luggage/food, and with every little details you can think of. To top it off Tuck is super easy to drive (drives like a sedan).
