Communicative, supportive, and instructional

Eric is friendly, provides excellent hands-on and written instructions, and supports guests by sorting out issues. Some bookings have been canceled by him.

Challenging manual driving experience

This classic van requires comfort with manual transmission due to difficult 1st gear, stalling, and rattling. AC is ineffective. It is well-maintained, comfortable for two, and has ample sleeping space with amenities.

The host, Eric was friendly and his van was just what we needed for our trip. For a 40 year old van everything was as we would have expected. We did run into some engine trouble, but Eric and Oudoorsy helped us sort out the issues without derailing our trip plans. We had a fantastic and unforgettable southwest adventure and I would do it all again!

Even though I owned a 1978 Datsun truck and later a 1994 Toyota truck, both with manual transmissions, and drove them on cross-country trips and around town for years, the VW camper van was very difficult for me to get into 1st gear smoothly. I stalled dozens of times. Eric warned me that the air conditioning was not very effective. We used the fans, but with the outdoor temperature at 100 degrees it was extremely hot driving between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. The van was a big hit at the campsite and those who slept in it said the bed was comfortable. It was the perfect accommodation for two members of our group. Driving it was extremely nerve-racking with wind on the highway and the van rattling and bumping along. However I am grateful to Eric for maintaining a "classic." A suggestion: give instructions on how to turn off green lights in manual.

We took this classic Westfalia all across New Mexico and it was incredible! If you're comfortable driving a manual transmission this is one of the best vans to explore the state with. Eric has maintained this van very well and it has space to sleep inside and up top easily. We fell in love with this VW bus and Eric was a really wonderful host, would recommend for anyone up for exploring with a little extra character!

The van was just what I needed for my weekend away. Eric provided excellent hands-on instruction and left a detailed set of instructions for anything that I forgot (I used it a couple of times!). The van had more amenities than I expected, and I was impressed at all the features Eric had added as well as the care and maintenance of the vehicle. I really was able to just pull up to my camping spot, pop the top and start enjoying the scenery. I would definitely rent from Eric again!
