2.0Overall, I would describe this experience as “OK.” The RV itself was fine, but Trailhead’s communication and business practices left a lot to be desired. Prospective renters should pay close attention to the number of add-on fees involved. Here was the rough breakdown of our rental: * 3-night rental: about $900 * Early pickup (9am instead of 2pm): $150 * Late drop-off (2:30pm instead of 9am): $150 * Camping kit: $150 After taxes, insurance, and Outdoorsy fees, the total came to nearly $2,000 for a weekend trip. The overall experience felt heavily fee-driven and very transactional. Nearly every part of the rental process had an associated charge or penalty, which made the experience feel more focused on enforcement than hospitality. What ultimately left a bad impression was the return process. I returned the RV at 2:54pm for a 2:30pm drop-off time and was charged a full one-hour late fee of $50 for being 24 minutes late. When I questioned the charge, Trailhead responded by saying they technically could have kept my entire $500 security deposit under the contract terms. Even more concerning, they later offered to refund the $50 late fee only if I agreed to leave a five-star review. That crossed the line for me and made the customer service experience feel disingenuous. If you are comfortable with a very strict, fee-heavy, highly transactional rental process, this company may work for you. But if you value flexibility, goodwill, and customer experience, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
