West Kelowna sits along Okanagan Lake in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. This small city is just a short drive from some of British Columbia’s most scenic regional and provincial parks, making it a hub for outdoor adventurers looking to explore the wilderness of western Canada. Visitors can head to Okanagan Lake to spend a day on the water or venture to Fintry Provincial Park to absorb the unique history of the region. Then, after a long day of hiking, canoeing, or even scuba diving, you can then head to town for a glass of wine or a trip through a local museum. When you book an RV in West Kelowna, you’ll get the most out of your trip to this scenic region of British Columbia.
West Kelowna’s location along Okanagan Lake in the heart of British Columbia makes it the ideal spot for RVers looking for plentiful outdoor adventure. Rose Valley Regional Park, Okanagan Lake Provincial Park, and Bear Creek Provincial Park are just a short drive from West Kelowna. Rose Valley features five miles of hiking trails through a unique evergreen forest ecosystem as well as a conservation area surrounding a natural pond.
If you enjoy water recreation, head to Okanagan Lake Provincial Park in nearby Summerland, which offers fishing, canoeing, waterskiing, windsurfing, and swimming opportunities as well as an on-site boat launch. Visitors to this park can also enjoy a short hiking trail as well as plentiful bird watching opportunities. Avid hikers, however, should head to Bear Creek Provincial Park, which has numerous trails for visitors to use. The Bear Creek Canyon Trail is a challenging but rewarding hike that takes visitors to viewpoints along the edge of a canyon. Visitors to Bear Creek can also enjoy cycling, swimming, and boating opportunities throughout the park.
Visitors willing to travel a bit farther with the West Kelowna motorhome rental can head to Fintry Provincial Park and Protected Area, Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park, or Granby Provincial Park. Visitors looking for rich history and unique recreational opportunities should head to Fintry Provincial Park in Vernon. History buffs can enjoy a preserved manor house and farmstead from when the area was initially settled, and adventurous types can even scuba dive to explore a sunken barge. Hikers can enjoy the stunning Shorts Creek Trail, which leads visitors to a massive natural waterfall.
Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park is also a hiker’s paradise with roughly 20 different trails of varying difficulty throughout the park. Visitors looking for a true wilderness excursion, however, should head to Granby Provincial Park. Nestled deep within Canada’s Southern Interior, this gorgeous park has five long hiking trails, fishing ponds, and even wintertime cross-country skiing and snowshoeing opportunities in the alpine backcountry. However, visitors should keep in mind that this park is incredibly remote, and they should come prepared with plenty of supplies.
RVers looking to spend quality time in the British Columbian wilderness can easily camp in the West Kelowna RV rental at one of the area’s many regional and provincial parks. Okanagan Lake Provincial Park has over 160 vehicle-accessible sites in its stunning North and South Campgrounds, but it does not offer any hookups and does not guarantee that all sites will fit a large trailer or RV. Fintry Provincial Park offers a similar arrangement with roughly 100 vehicle-accessible sites. However, these campgrounds do have on-site bathrooms and showers, so visitors won’t need to rough it too much. The campgrounds at Bear Creek Provincial Park are a bit more RV friendly with many sites available as well as an on-site dump station.
If you’d prefer an RV campground with more amenities, check out the West Eagle Campground, Todd’s RV and Camping, or the Kelowna Urban Farm and RV Park. Although this campground lacks extra amenities like pools or mini golf courses, it has full hookups as well as easy access to the city along Highway 97.
Todd’s RV and Campground is just a short drive south to Peachland, and guests at the park can take advantage of amenities like full hookups, a beach volleyball pit, and an on-site general store. For a unique RV park experience, however, consider Kelowna Urban Farm and RV Park. In addition to a slew of basic amenities, this RV campground has an on-site farm where visitors can purchase fresh food, making for an awesome experience while camping with the RV rental near West Kelowna.
