Welcome to historic Jonesboro, Georgia, the official home of Gone with the Wind. When Margaret Mitchell penned her epic novel in 1936, it was this community that informed and inspired her main character Scarlett O’Hara and her idyllic Tara. In fact, Tara Boulevard, one of the main roads that runs through Jonesboro, was named in commemoration of the novel. Though a rural town at the time Gone with the Wind was written, today, Jonesboro is largely suburban. A small community and the county seat of Clayton County, there’s much to do when you visit. Jonesboro's convenient location off I-75 allows visitors ease of access to Atlanta and other Georgia hot spots, but even if you decide to stay local, there's tons to do in town. Home to two large lakes, several historic sites, and plenty of parks and green spaces, there’s fun for the entire family in Jonesboro.
