Exploring the Area
Athens-Clarke County campers have plenty to explore in the areas around Sandy Creek Park. The city of Athens is just six miles from the park and is located in the northeastern part of Georgia. As a university hub, Athens is also pretty big on arts, culture, and scenic outdoors, and is a great stop for the weekend.
Spend a leisurely morning strolling through Downtown Athens. From art galleries to museums, restaurants to open public spaces, government buildings to shopping corners, and restaurants, this area is packed with action.
Check out over 300 acres of flowers, shrubs, and plants at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. It also houses a tropical conservatory of plants from warmer countries, a medicinal garden, a heritage garden, and a native garden.
