The Great Outdoors
You'll find several lovely parks in and around Dortmund, but Westfalenpark is perhaps the best place to start your outdoor adventure. Located a short drive southeast of the city center, this sprawling park opened in the 1950s as part of a natural horticultural show. It's no surprise then that there are plenty of colorful flowers on display here, including over 2,500 species of roses in the German Rosarium. There's also plenty of space here to enjoy a leisurely stroll along a walking path or just stretch out in the sunshine. The city's iconic television tower is also in the park.

It's well worth taking a guided tour here to learn more about the mining process, the working conditions of miners in times gone by, and the old engine house and machinery. The Gothic architecture and industrial design here are considered features in their own right, and the museum also regularly hosts cultural events and festivals.
