Horseshoe Lake Campground

Other than excellent hiking, you can get a whole lot of outdoor experiences near your motorhome rental at Horseshoe Lake Campground. You’ll be in the middle of Horseshoe Lake State Park and able to enjoy everything that comes with staying by a beautiful lake. There are boats, and you can try your luck and maybe catch a channel catfish, bass, or a carp, and there’s a lot of bird watching to be done as well. Finish the day off with a picnic before heading back to your rental motorhome. If you want to go on a little drive, head north to Lewis and Clark State Memorial Park where there are even more trails, running through a variety of trees and shrubs that are home to wildlife such as deer, squirrels, and rabbits. If you still have birds to check off your list, then this is a great place for that. There’s also a self-guided nature trail, in case you want to know more about the area. Another thing you need to do is take a look at Discovery, a full-size replica of the keelboat used by none other than Lewis and Clark, and there’s also a festival in their honor. You’d better not be tired of water, because the next destination also has a lake. At Eldon Hazlet State Park near Carlyle, you can use one of the boat ramps and have a relaxing time while looking out over the beautiful surroundings, and there’s also sailing on the menu here. Have a picnic or clean the fish that you’ve hopefully caught by ramps, and walk around the wildflowers while keeping an eye open for wildlife. There’s also a public swimming pool, and you can go geocaching at this scenic lakeside park.
