With the Ticino River just south of Pavia's city center, there's plenty of beautiful waterfront scenery to enjoy when you start wandering around the city. Exploring the City
The most iconic sight in Pavia is undoubtedly the Certosa di Pavia, so make this your first stop. This remarkable Carthusian monastery north of the city was commissioned by Galeazzo Visconti, the first Duke of Milan, back in 1396. Its imposing facade features many elegant sculptures, while the elaborate Renaissance paintings and frescoes inside always attract plenty of attention — the works of Bergognone are particular favorites.
