I have always enjoyed traveling. I started making my own spin on a camper as a way to get my family of four deeper off of the beaten path, and further into nature, than we could with travel trailers and RVs in the past. We also wanted to take those comforts of home we didn’t want to leave behind. I now offer multiple micro campers, and really like sharing these rigs so others can experience those special moments I know my family and I treasure. The first conversion of the fleet, the Tatami Traveler, began its life as a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan we called “The Gator” because of its green color and the way it just seems to grip the road. I have owned rvs and travel trailers in the past, but realized I wanted to create something more nimble, with everything I needed or wanted and nothing I didn’t.Under the hood is a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine. That means great gas mileage plus the power to tow 1900 pounds. The seats fold away for a full camp mattress to fit 2-3 comfortably while the Thule Tepui Ayer rooftop tent can hold an additional 2-3. The spacious Nemo privacy tent integrates seamlessly with the Nemo camp shower, and leaves plenty room for the Luggable Loo composting toilet and trash bin.Should you choose, the Ecoflow Delta 1800w generator and included solar panel will take you off grid and keep you there indefinitely. There’s tons of connectivity to power just about anything you can think of. Also at around 30 lbs, it’s small footprint takes up minimal precious cargo space in the rig. What's included- Thule Tepui Ayer rooftop tent (sleeps 2-3)
- leveling blocks
- suv air mattress (sleeps additional 2-3)
- Nemo LX pressurized shower
- Nemo Heliopolis privacy bathroom tent
- Ecoflow Delta solar generator and panels (if desired)
- Jetboil Sumo camp stove with fuel
- Luggable Loo composting toilet setup
- Lockable trash can and bags
- cooler and some snacks
- camping cookware and dinnerware

RecommendationsThere are so many options with this sweet rig, and Joplin is the perfect launching point for any number of adventures. Whether you’re into hunting, fishing, or hiking like us, you’ll find a perfect setup in this glamped out VW. I have enjoyed taking the Tatami Traveler throughout the Southwest, hitting national parks like the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado, and Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. One summer we took the rig way down to Big Bend in Texas and had some more fun in the desert sun. There are loads of closer destinations too. We have taken the TT camping for a float trip and some cave exploring near Meremac Caverns between here and St. Louis.Sugar Island in Pineville is a great quick shot destination from Joplin to unwind and soak in those river float vibes.Bella Vista, Arkansas is a nearby family favorite for hiking, swimming, shopping, eating, and more! Hit the trails by Bentonville’s Crystal Bridges before taking the kids to the attached Amazeum for some indoor fun.Keep trucking on to Buffalo River to really do things right. The Tatami Traveler was practically built to navigate all the twisty roads and gravel drives near Ponca and Jasper, Arkansas. Pull right up next to the river and camp before kayaking America’s first National river.Coler Mountain Bike Preserve in Bentonville is another great option. Check out the amenities at their campground!Other things to noteI would recommend downloading this eguide in google docs before you begin you’re adventure.Eguide: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-e9jWdmYoc1WYJuj6aND-mKcgamoztdtALy-7gfgXeQ/edit

I’m the father of two great girls, and one rowdy dog named Donut. We travel often to the family ranch in New Mexico, and have been enjoying making desert ready adventure rigs that are up to the task for some time now. We enjoy doing some light overloading on forest roads, getting into unforgiving terrain for some undisturbed hiking and wildlife spotting. Hopefully the rigs I build can help others go further and stay out longer!
