Getting Outdoors

Lake Fausse Pointe State Park offers outstanding fishing for anglers. Cast a line into the waters here for a catch of largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white bass, crappie, and bream. The backwaters of the park offer excellent fishing, but its best to take a guide along with you, so you don’t get lost in the maze of swamps!

While a vast majority of Lake Fausse Pointe State Park is made up of swamps and waterways, boating gives you a closer view of the lakes. Take out a canoe or kayak and maneuver around the lake’s edges. Armed with a paddle in hand, it’s helpful to move through the waterlogged forests. Canoe and kayak rentals are available at the Visitor Center in case you haven’t brought your watercraft to the park.

Camping with an RV at Lake Fausse Pointe State Park is fun for hikers. There are several boardwalks that are more like elevated walkways above the swamps that help you keep your boots dry. Walk amid cypress trees and take in the views of Lake Fausse and the neighboring Dauterive Lake. The state park runs multiple programs conducted by naturalists who teach visitors about the ecology, history, and biology of the park and the Atchafalaya Basin.
