Susquehanna Campground

One of the benefits of RV camping is that you have a home on wheels you can take anywhere; this means you can go as you please and take your time, arriving in your RV rental when it suits you or just arriving wherever without planning ahead. The campsites at Susquehanna Campground can be booked ahead or claimed without a reservation; drive in and check to see which campsites haven't been booked and you're all set. The campground is divided into two loops, each loop having a bathhouse at its center for easy access no matter which site you choose. Some of the campsites have water hookups, and some have electric hookups, but most are primitive (no hookups); there are water spigots in each loop where you can draw water for drinking or other purposes. The RV campground has a playground for young kids and an amphitheater, but is otherwise undeveloped, allowing you to appreciate nature in its purest form. It is open from April through to October each year and is pet-friendly to pets on a leash. While you're staying here, you are only steps from the Susquehanna River, where you can enjoy swimming, tubing, and other water-based activities. Across the river and only a short drive away, you can enjoy the nightlife at the casino in Perryville; Darlington is also a few minutes' drive away if you should need to stock up on supplies or just head into town to look around.

The Great Outdoors

Search for an RV in Harford County, and you can choose a rental RV that perfectly suits your needs. Start your exploration by heading to Elk Neck State Forest, an outdoor recreation area consisting of wooded flatlands, marshes, and rolling hills; the woods are mostly deciduous and evergreen tree stands with undergrowth such as azaleas, mountain laurel, and other shrub species. There are two systems of trails through the park, one of which crosses through the densely forested Plum Creek Watershed; the other which moves in and out of the park boundaries on its way to the Turkey Point Lighthouse at Elk Neck State Park, its final destination. Keep your motorhome rental nearby, and you can reward yourself with a hot meal and drinks at the end of your outdoor excursions.White Clay Creek State Park is just across the state border near Newark, Delaware; it is historically famous as the starting point (within the park) of the Mason-Dixon survey that led to the creation of the Mason-Dixon line. The creek is stocked with bluegill, crappie, and rainbow and brown trout; anglers will also find largemouth bass, which can be fished as catch-and-release. Fishing is allowed with the proper licenses and stamps from April through to November, but you should check and confirm the exact dates and requirements. The park has over 30 miles of trails for hikers and mountain bikers, ranging from easy to moderate difficulty, that will take you through historic areas and past areas where you can look down upon lush valleys and up at impressive rock outcroppings.Nottingham County Park was established in 1963. The area was formerly inhabited by quarries and mines where feldspar, serpentine, and chromite ore were recovered. Serpentine is a light-green rock that is so rare it is found in only a few areas in all of North America; the soil resting on it is light in essential minerals and heavy in metals, which is why few ordinary plants will grow. The vegetation in these areas is distinct from the vegetation in surrounding areas, making for an interesting photographic landscape. There are several trails where you can take a leisurely stroll; one of them leads to higher elevations where you can look down upon savannahs while another shorter trail has exercise stations along its path and leads to a butterfly and hummingbird garden.

Exploring The Area

Maryland has an impressive history, but it is also deeply rooted in agriculture, as can be seen in the town of Churchville. The town has a local farmers market, but if you really want to be impressed, you can go directly to one of the farms to view its produce firsthand (it has an annual corn maze in the fall that kids enjoy). There is a golf course with a reasonably challenging fairway and another that is more similar to miniature golf, plus a driving range and a batting cage. A local tour guide company offers sky diving, and a second has hot air balloon rides; if archery is your thing, there's an archery range. By now you're probably getting hungry but not to worry, Churchville has a wide range of places to eat that include Chinese, Italian and Mexican cuisines, pizzerias, and a creamery that specializes in desserts and nothing else.Aberdeen is a smaller town but isn't without its merits, one of which is Ripken Stadium, a well-known baseball field that is home to a minor league affiliate of the MLB Baltimore Orioles. If you're lucky, you can spend an afternoon here taking in a game along with the requisite hot dogs (it wouldn't be a baseball game without them). Aberdeen also has an impressive list of restaurants, including some venues that serve Peruvian, Greek, and Korean food. When you're renting an RV in Harford County, park it at one of the campsites at Susquehanna Campground, and you can easily explore this exciting region.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
