The Great Outdoors

There are lots of nearby state parks to explore while camping at Tucquan Park Family Campground. Susquehannock State Park is just down the road from the campground and provides over 200 acres of woodlands overlooking the Susquehanna River. There are over five miles of trail to explore at this park which leads hikers by wildflowers and offers beautiful vistas of the river. During your hike, you should keep an eye out for local wildlife, including an abundance of birds including osprey, bald eagles, and hawks. If you're looking for lunch with a view, there are roughly 20 grills and 80 picnic tables, so you can grill out in this gorgeous riverside park.Another nearby riverside park worth exploring is Samuel S Lewis State Park. This small state park covers over 80 acres on the opposite side of the river and is centered around Mt. Pisgah, which rises over 800 feet, surrounded by forests and fields. There are one and a half miles of trails which will take hikers through woodlands and up the cliffs affording stunning views of the river. This area is notoriously windy, so if you're visiting on a blustery day, make sure to bring along a kite for excellent flying conditions. Visitors during the winter will also have fun sledding down the many hills in the area. One of the biggest parks worth exploring along the Susquehanna River is Susquehanna State Park. This park is located just across the state line in Maryland and features miles of dense woodland and rugged terrain along the Susquehanna River. There are over 15 miles of trails to explore that will take you along woodland trails, waterfalls, and much more. Fishing and boating are popular here, and the Chesapeake is just downstream if you want to explore this beautiful area. There are also historical sites at the state park, with a working gristmill and the Steppingstone Museum which focuses on local rural living.

Exploring the City

One of the best cities to visit during your Holtwood RV rental vacation is Philadelphia. The metropolis is less than 80 miles away and is one of America's oldest cities, full of culture and history. One of Philly's most famous sights is the Liberty Bell. This State House bell is a symbol of American independence and liberty, and visitors come from across the country to see it. Visitors can learn about the inscriptions on the bell, how it was made, and rumors about how the bell became cracked over 150 years ago.One popular family-friendly destination in Philadelphia is the Philadelphia Zoo. This riverside zoo is one of the best in the region and features over 300 species of animals spread across 40 acres. The zoo has an impressive collection of critters, including critically endangered animals such as western lowland gorillas, Amur leopards, and Chinese alligators. The zoo also runs classes on how to help protect endangered species and fragile ecosystems. One of the creepiest but most intriguing sights in Philadelphia is the Eastern State Penitentiary. This abandoned prison was once one of the most notorious detention centers in the United States, and housed famous criminals including Al Capone and Willie Sutton. Visitors can take guided tours of the cell blocks and see the dilapidated and terrifying prison firsthand. Many say ex-prisoners haunt the prison, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled for anything strange during your visit.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
