RecommendationsOur rigs are dialed in for front country tours mixed with extended backcountry romps. See a different side of Montana on your trip to Glacier or Yellowstone this time and take the fun way there & back again - you'll be glad you did!Other things to noteUp to 2 of your pups are welcome to come along on your adventure. Our rigs are highway and dirt road drivers. They are not being rented to you for wheeling or mudding on unimproved trails or off road areas. Although the ESCAPOD has the best approach and departure angles imaginable, still give some consideration when easing into camp sites.Again folks, ESCAPOD is a rare and special van that was designed and intended for the Japanese, not the US market, over 25 yrs ago. Drivers must be major accident free to qualify to rent and demonstrate competency behind the wheel of a right hand drive as well as attentiveness to the vehicles diagnostics and unique handling aspects. Have a question?Get answers directly from the host

Q.Is this van legal to drive in the US?
A.
Absolutely. The ESCAPOD is properly titled here in Montana and perfectly legal to drive as any other highway vehicle. The US has a strict 25 year import rule and this van was properly imported under it.

Q.Is it hard/weird to drive on the right side?
A.
Surprisingly, no. It takes a few minutes to adjust to the seating position but that's about it. Brake and acceleration are in the usual places. Turning on the wipers when you mean to signal a turn is a thing at first- those stalks are reversed from what's normal in the US. In any case, you'll get a full primer and drive along before taking off!

Q.Does this van have airbags or ABS?
A.
Definitely not. The van is a 1994 JDM import and only has safety features required in that market at that time.

Q.I've heard these are slow, how fast will it go? Can it handle hills?
A.
ESCAPOD has a brand new D4BF engine, oversized coolant system with enhanced routing, an intercooler, enhanced air intake and exhaust and a professional tune. That said, it's still a 25yo, 5000+ lb van with large wheels/tires (and possibly 7 bodies w. gear!) and a 2.5 liter engine- it's going to feel slow compared to typical vehicles but cruises without breaking a sweat, hills included. As with all our campers, we recommend 65mph as a max speed for a multitude of reasons. Enjoy the cruise!
