Knob Noster Campground

Knob Noster Campground is located in Knob Noster State Park, right outside of a small town of Knob Noster, Missouri. This RV campground is a little over an hour's drive east of Kansas City and about a 90-minute drive from Columbia and Jefferson City. When RV camping at Knob Noster Campground, you can visit some less touristy areas of Missouri and be close to the big cities, where you can visit attractions, restaurants, and shopping centers. Book an RV in Johnson County, Missouri, and you can see all the cultural and natural areas and landmarks of western Missouri.There are no full-hookup campsites at Knob Noster Campground, only basic sites and some with electric hookups. The camp is open year-round, and showers and water are available from April until October. During the wintertime, you can get water from a frost-free spigot near one of the campsites. All the campsites have fire rings and picnic tables, and you can get firewood when the office is open.Knob Noster Campground has a camp store, big rig access, and tent camping is available. It is also a kid-friendly RV campground with a lot of space for kids to run and play and many recreational trails nearby. There are also playgrounds and a lake close to the campground, where you can enjoy fishing, swimming, and boating. The state park also has other ponds, lakes, and rivers available for water activities.

The Great Outdoors

Ralph and Martha Perry Memorial State Wildlife Area is only about 20 minutes' drive north of the RV campground. The park was named after Dr. Ralph Perry and his wife after they donated 40 acres of land to the conservation area. The entire park covers about 4,000 acres of land, with diverse terrain and plant and animal species. This beautiful area is great for nature viewing, photography, hiking, and picnicking. If you like fishing, you can do it by the bridge, where you can find bass, bluegill, and channel catfish. Other animals that you can see here include deer, turkey, squirrel, quail, and rabbits.Harry S. Truman Reservoir consists of almost 60,000 acres of land, and it is one of the best fishing and hunting locations in this part of Missouri. Around the reservoir, there are beautiful natural areas, including Brush Creek State Wildlife Management Area and Harry S. Truman State Park. Fish species you can find here include black bass, catfish, crappie, and white bass. If you like hunting or wildlife watching, you can find deer, squirrel, and turkey. Other popular recreational activities here are bird watching, boating, and swimming. In the scenic areas around the lake, you can enjoy hiking, biking, and picnicking.The Lake of the Ozarks is located approximately 90 minutes' drive southeast of the campsites at Knob Noster Campground. The lake is surrounded by the Lake of the Ozarks State Park, where you can find boat ramps, picnic shelters, and camping areas. On the shore, you can enjoy swimming and fishing, and on the lake, you can go kayaking, canoeing, and motorboating. The park has beautiful hiking trails, which are great for bicycling, backpacking, and exploring. There are many gorgeous scenic areas where you can relax by the water and have a picnic with your family. Anglers will have a chance to hook black bass, crappie, and paddlefish.

Exploring the City

Miller Mausoleum is an extraordinary piece of architecture in Johnson County. Joseph M. Miller started building the mausoleum for his family in 1917. It took him ten years to finish it, and build a community park around it for everyone to enjoy. The whole structure is made of steel-reinforced concrete. One of the rooms of the building is dedicated to the Civil War and has artifacts on display. In a smaller room, there are several family portraits and religious relics.The Powell Gardens, Kansas City's Botanical Garden is located half an hour's drive west of Knob Noster Campground. The gardens feature seven different themed gardens, dedicated to different seasons and all with incredible plant species. Individual gardens like Fountain Garden or The Memorial Garden are beautiful spots where you can relax and spend some time in peace and quiet while smelling the flowers. The garden offers guided tours, events, and programs, as well as birthday celebrations, weddings, corporate events, and more.The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art is just one of many incredible museums in Kansas City. The museum has a valuable collection of artwork from around the world. Here you can see paintings, sculptures, photography, and more. The museum is part of the Johnson County Community College campus, and every year it receives over 100,000 visitors, which makes it one of the most important cultural establishments in the state.

What type of RV should I choose?

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

How does check-in work?

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
