RecommendationsWe love where we're from! We love the land, the people, the music, the food, the outdoor opportunities, our downtowns, our flea markets, and our festivals. This is Home! While it's sometimes fun to wander far, we love wandering near. Our rig is our vehicle for making this happen. We're not sure how to fit every "close by" recommendation, but we'll mention a few.Compromise is parked 1 mile from downtown Mt. Airy and all "Mayberry" attractions. She's kept on a 25 Acre farm. The farm borders the Ararat River (Stocked Trout Stream) and is a short bike ride to a 10 mile greenway. For those wanting to venture out, the Blue Ridge Parkway is a 15 minute drive up the mountain. On your way up, stop and pick fresh cherries at Levering Orchard. Doughton Park(Due South) and Rocky Knob (Due North) are both great public campgrounds that accommodate RV's and have tons of great hikes. Our Favorite is Rock Castle Creek Gorge. Mabry Mill, the most photographed site on the parkway, is between the two camps. Be sure to try the famous buckwheat pancakes and take a tour of the mill. Blue Ridge Music Center is also between the camps and has a phenomenal summer concert series. If you like road cycling, this section of the parkway is a must. We have a 4 bike carrier upgrade if needed. Taylor has cycled the entire parkway and would love to share his favorite loops in the area. We're also nestled between three well known NC State Parks. Pilot Mountain is a 20 minute drive south, The park itself only has tent sites, but Greystone RV park is close by, and has great views of the knob. If you're around in August, check out the Corn Shucking Festival at near by Horne Creek Historical Farm. Hanging Rock State Park is 45 minute drive to the east. This park accommodates RV's. There is a swimming lake for summer months and a great Mountain Biking Trail System (Moores Springs Trail). Dan River Outfitters leads canoe, kayak, and tubing groups near the park. Stone Mountain is 45 minutes west. It also has camping sites for the RV. Site 55 is our favorite. If you love waterfalls this is the park for you. There is also a delayed harvest trout stream running the entire length of the park. All three parks have tons of miles of hiking, waterfalls, rock climbing and relaxation. There are also 3 Va. state parks within an hour Fairy Stone, Hungry Mother, and Grayson Highlands.
Note worthy events:
- Downtown Mayberry (always there and always great)
- Mt Airy Fiddlers Convention (1st weekend in June)
- Galax Fiddlers Convention (2nd week in August)
- Floyd Fest (last week in July)
- Hillsville Flea Market (Labor Day weekend)
- Autumn Leaves Festival (2nd weekend October)
- Mayberry Days (Third week in September)
- Farm Fest (3rd weekend in May)
Other things to noteOur #1 Rule is that you get out there and have fun on the road
#2 Drive with eyes wide open and take it all in.
#3 Don't be in a hurry, you may miss the best part
#4 Try something new while you're out there
#5 Tell us all about it when you get back
Oh yeah...and don't smoke in Compromise.

Meet your host, Taylor

Member since 2021

We're the Bradley's. A fun loving, life living, family of 5, from the Foothills of NC. Taylor, the Padre of the bunch, would just assume sleep on the ground under the stars. Sarah, the Mama of the crew, prefers warm beds, hot water, and stores nearby. Hence the RV, or our "Compromise." We love to boon-dock in the middle of nowhere where the lights are faint and the stars bright, but we also love being in the middle of somewhere with utility hookups and people to meet. We've found that it's sometimes fun to wander far, but we also love wandering near. Our rig has allowed these two worlds of adventure and luxury to coincide and we hope it affords the same for you.
