The Great Outdoors

You’d better have brought both your swimsuit and tackle box on your Ogallala camping vacation, or you’ll miss out on some of the fun at Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area. This reservoir has the most gorgeous white sand beaches where you can swim, water ski, or go scuba diving, and the fishing is great too. Go hiking, camping, or bird watching before going to the visitor center where you can watch exhibits and walk around aquariums - you can even join the annual sandcastle building contest.Hop into your Ogallala camper rental and head west, because Pawnee National Grassland in Colorado is next on the list of fantastic nature and fun outdoor recreation. Here you’ll be met by a sea of grass that is home to many different bird species as well as pronghorns, coyotes, foxes, and prairie dogs, where you can go hiking, camping, horseback riding, and stargazing - you’ll be amazed at the amount you can see here. The area also bears traces of frontier families trying to make it in the new country, and you can visit old homesteads, cemeteries, and museums.Time for some trees, so put on your hiking boots and fill the rental RV with snacks and get ready for some adventure in Nebraska National Forest, a place with a rather colorful history. Over a century ago it was all plains, but botanist Charles E. Bessey had a vision of a forest - so he created one. You can visit the tree nursery that’s still in business, as well as the visitor center to learn more, or you can just hike, bike, fish, and search for rocks in the beautiful forest. There are also water activities, and once the snow falls, you can go both skiing and snowshoeing.

Exploring the Area

You barely have to leave the Ogallala campground to get a taste of how much fun it is to experience and learn about the local history and culture, not when Ogallala itself is packed with all sorts of activities. Once a year they host the Keith County Fair & Rodeo where you can be a spectator at many different kinds of rodeos, as well as watch animal shows and various artists, try an escape room or play one of the games available. If you’re not in town for July, you can check out the Front Street and Cowboy Museum with shows, a gift shop, a steakhouse, and a saloon all year round. If you haven’t quite satisfied your thirst for knowledge about Ogallala and its surroundings, you can visit the O’Brien/Lute Home. At this homestead dwelling found on the grounds of the Mansion on the Hill, you can go on guided tours including the mansion and country schoolhouse as well. If you want to go even further back in time, go check out the ancient wood, fossils, and Native American arrowheads and artifacts at the Petrified Wood Museum.

It doesn't get more convenient than having your own bathroom on the road. Let's talk about the 3 main types of toilets you may encounter in an RV rental.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
