Discover Acorn Campground

RV campers looking for a campground in southern New Jersey should consider Acorn Campground. On the scenic Cape May Peninsula, this RV park is ideal for campers looking to soak up the sun. There's plenty to do around the campsite, with two swimming pools and a game room to enjoy. If you'd prefer to make the most of your beautiful natural surroundings, there are several beaches and nature trails near the park, and pets are welcome so your pup can help you explore.

When you camp in an RV at Acorn Campground, you'll be at one of the region's best-equipped RV parks. There are over 300 available sites, which provide either full hookups or water and electric only, with support for 20/30 amp service. Back-in and pull-through sites are available, and each site comes with a fire ring. The camp also offers some basic amenities, including showers, restrooms, and laundry facilities.

Travelers looking to camp on the Cape May Peninsula will find themselves in one of New Jersey's most popular tourist areas. Beautiful seaside cities such as Cape May and Wildwood are just a few miles away, and if you want to explore one of the area's bustling metropolises, Philadelphia is less than a 90-minute drive away. As for nearby nature, there are several sandy beaches, state parks, and lush forests just outside Cape May waiting to be discovered.

The Great Outdoors

There are some gorgeous seaside state parks worth visiting with your campervan rental near Cape May. Campers will no doubt want to explore some more of the peninsula, and the best way to do this is by visiting Cape May Point State Park. The state park is located at the tip of the peninsula and features woodlands, beaches, and marshes overlooking Delaware Bay. The park has several short hiking trails that lead past the Cape May Lighthouse, a 157-foot-tall operational lighthouse which the public can scale, boasting sublime views of the bay and peninsula. Down by the water, fishing is a favorite pastime, and anglers can expect to catch tautog, striped bass, and flounder in the bay. Other popular activities include birdwatching and picnicking.

Another state park just up the coast is Corson's Inlet State Park. This park is excellent for a peaceful day out, as it contains one of the last untouched seaside dune systems in New Jersey. Hikers will enjoy climbing the dunes, and during the walk, keep an eye out for local birds, such as herons, sandpipers, and plovers. The park's inlet makes this the perfect spot for watersports such as boating and fishing, and a boat launch is open to the public every day of the week. Anglers will have a ball here too, and common catches include weakfish, striped bass, and kingfish.

Cape May campers may also be itching to explore some of the historic parks along the Delaware River. Fort Mott State Park is historic as it features the remnants of Fort Mott, a coastal defense fort built in the late 1800s. Visitors can explore the remains of the fort and read information panels that explain the fort's history. Behind the fort is the Delaware River, where visitors can enjoy a leisurely riverside stroll, or take advantage of the many picnic tables and grab a bite to eat.

Exploring the City

There are some excellent attractions worth visiting while renting an RV near Cape May, including the Cape May County Park and Zoo. This mid-sized zoo is perfect for a quick day out with the family and features over 250 species of animals, both local and exotic. Some of the highlights from the zoo include African lions, cheetahs, and red pandas. The park surrounding the zoo also runs a number of activities including disc golf, and the zoo holds educational programs for all ages so visitors can learn more about conservation efforts.

You'll undoubtedly want to plan a trip to one of the area's vibrant cities when you camp at Acorn Campground. Philadelphia is one of America's premier cities and offers a ton of unique and exciting attractions. If you're looking to mix history and excitement, plan a visit to the Eastern State Penitentiary. This once infamous prison was one of the biggest and most expensive in the country until its closure in 1971. Since then, the prison has been open for public tours, where visitors can roam the halls and see the cells of famous inmates such as gangster Al Capone. The jail is also said to be haunted, and visitors can book nightly paranormal investigations to see if anything lurks in the shadows of this imposing prison.

Philadelphia has some of the best museums in the country, and art fans will want to plan a visit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This museum is one of the largest in the country in terms of floor space and features a collection of over 240,000 pieces of art in its permanent collection, with over 6,000 years of art history on display.
