When you book a travel trailer rental near Ocean Waves Campground, you can explore a variety of different parks and beaches in the area. The beach at Ocean Waves Campground is absolutely gorgeous, but the entire Outer Banks is lined with amazing beaches that are worth seeing, too. Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge is nearby, with dazzling seashores and sand dunes. These oceanside ecosystems are protected due to the many endangered species of birds and waterfowl that call it home. Birdwatching, nature photography, swimming, and fishing are all popular ways to pass the time in the conservation area.Cape Lookout National Seashore and Cape Hatteras National Seashore are also great places to see, protecting other stretches of the Outer Banks from development. Off the coast of Cape Hatteras National Seashore are the violent waters known as the “Graveyard of the Atlantic” due to the countless shipwrecks that lie on the ocean floor. Cape Lookout National Seashore has over 50 miles of wild coastline, with historic village districts, old lighthouses, and wild horses. Both seashores are great for beach-going, swimming, kayaking, surfing, fishing, and a whole lot more.Jockey’s Ridge State Park is 30 miles north of the campsites at Ocean Wave Campground. It features the tallest sand dunes in the region. At the on-site visitor center, guests can explore a museum highlighting the history of the park. The park's spectacular hiking trails are a big hit with tourists too. Just north of the state park is the Wright Brothers National Memorial, marking the famed location of the first manned flight in human history, an achievement made possible by the Wright brothers of Ohio. You can learn about why the brothers chose this spot to be their testing grounds, high atop the blustery sand dunes overlooking the sea.Over on the mainland, you can bring your RV rental to Croatan National Forest, a wide-open expanse of land covering 160,000 acres. Mountain biking, trekking, fishing, hunting, birdwatching, and offroading are great ways to enjoy your visit here.
When you're camping at Ocean Waves, you can sample some fabulous regional cuisines. Restaurants line the shores of the Outer Banks and many are within walking distance of the campground. Surf shops and fishing charters are also within easy reach. Groceries and fuel for the Waves motorhome rental can be acquired nearby, too.No cities grace the shores of the Outer Banks, but there are some neat villages and towns that populate the barrier islands. Fans of lighthouses can enjoy some of the country’s best and most well-known lighthouses, like the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse that was once the tallest of its kind in the nation. The massive structure still stands to this day, although it has been moved inland to a new location to be preserved.Native American history is also fascinating to learn about while camping on the Outer Banks, and the Frisco Native American Museum is a wonderful place to learn more about the culture. Thousands of artifacts belonging to both local tribes and other native cultures from around the country are on display at this wonderful institution, like small figurines, weapons, arrowheads, and colorful costumes. The Croatoan, Hatterask, and Roanoac cultures are the primary focuses of the museum.
What type of RV should I choose?
Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.
You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.
Do the RVs have bathrooms?
Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.
How does check-in work?
Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
