The Great Outdoors

When you book an RV in Dare County, you might be wondering where to bring your campervan rental first once you settle into your cozy campsite. Jockey’s Ridge State Park is found up by Nags Head not far from where you’ll be camping, giving you ample space to hike around and climb the towering dunes where the Wright brothers flew for the first time in recorded history. The park is one of the most popular recreation areas in the state, with lovely ecosystems and a park museum where you can learn about the native species found within.Cape Hatteras National Seashore is an amazing stretch of coast and is as beautiful as it is treacherous for seafarers, once dubbed the Graveyard of the Atlantic for the high number of shipwrecks occurring off its coast. Lots of sunken ships are strewn across the ocean floor just offshore, and incredible surfing, swimming, and fishing are part of the fun when you rent an RV near Cape Hatteras KOA and drop by this beachfront wonderland.Head inland a bit and you can visit Croatan National Forest, a 160,000-acre gem teeming with wildlife, spectacular views, a variety of trees and plants, and a vast network of nature trails for trekking. Mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, and wildlife photography are all fantastic ways to utilize the public space too, and you can also camp in a rustic campground found inside the park if you want a more natural experience for a night or two.

Exploring the City

Rodanthe is not the liveliest town, but driving to other cities beside the sea is easy and worth the extra effort if you're hoping to explore some urban attractions during your RV rental vacation. Up in Kill Devil Hills, there are art galleries, mini-golf courses, cinemas, restaurants, seafood shacks, bars, and lots of other vacation attractions for summertime visitors. The Avalon Fishing Pier is a local favorite, and somewhat of a landmark in the region thanks to its iconic structure and splendid views. You can play some arcade games, eat some tasty snacks, cast your rod and catch gigantic fish right off the tip of the fishing pier, or simply enjoy magical sunrises over the Atlantic Ocean. The Outer Banks Arboretum and Teaching Garden provides visitors a space to appreciate and connect with nature. The brick paths that weave their way throughout the garden are a pleasure to traverse while meditating and strolling between native plants, unique trees, and lots of songbirds and butterflies making their presence known. The Wright Brothers National Memorial is a memorable and mesmerizing stop that should not be missed when you rent an RV near Cape Hatteras KOA. The memorial pays homage to Orville and Wilbur Wright from Dayton, Ohio, who first achieved manned, powered flight on the sandy dunes of Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk at the dawn of the 20th century. Learn about their legacy, the first airplane designs, the science behind one of today's most common modes of transportation, and the innovation that the brothers brought to the world.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
