The Great Outdoors

Frisco Woods Campground is a great place to camp near Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The sprawling coastal wilderness is just a short walk from the campground. Over 70 miles of beach frontage provide perfect places to relax; many of the beaches offer lifeguard service. Picnic areas are peppered around the beach for those who wish to enjoy a meal. The beach also provides off-road vehicle access with a permit. There are ORV routes all along the seashore, and these vehicles are a very convenient and efficient way to explore the beautiful beachfront. The area is also a great place for bird watching, and if you're lucky, you may even see turtles or seals. Waterfowl hunting is allowed in some designated areas, but be sure to check regulations before you go. Three designated hiking trails are inland; they're great ways to enjoy some peace and quiet in the area. The area is also an excellent place to go kayaking and canoeing. Several kayak launches can be accessed along the Pamlico Shore, and several local outfitters offer equipment rentals as well. Those who are feeling a little more daring may want to try surfing, kiteboarding, or snorkeling. The surf in the area can be relatively challenging, so it's best for those who already have some surfing experience. Snorkeling is a great way to see some of the aquatic wildlife in the area. Fishing and crabbing are both popular activities here as well, with plenty of points on the shore where visitors can find a good catch. Yellowfin tuna is one of the most popular species in the area, but you may also find sea bass and other species when you fish here.A short drive inland is the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, which is another popular outdoor destination when you're motorhome camping near Cape Hatteras. Taking a drive through the refuge is a great way to see some of the incredible wildlife that live in the area. You may see black bears, alligators, frogs, and some migratory birds. There are also several wildlife trails where you can enjoy a gentle hike while seeing the species up close. Hunting and fishing are allowed in certain areas of the wildlife refuge; be sure to check the rules before you go.

Exploring The Area

There are lots of fun things to do when you go camping in an RV at Frisco Woods Campground. Visitors will want to tour the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, which was built in 1870 and has been preserved since then. Another fascinating attraction is the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, which focuses on the area's history of shipwrecks and other fascinating maritime events. North of the campground is the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site. This is a preserved area that was originally settled as a colony in the mid-16th century. Those who aren't comfortable boating on their own may want to consider one of the area's many cruises, which are a great way to experience the exhilaration of being out on the water without the responsibility of sailing yourself.A gas station and a grocery store can be found in Frisco, so you won't have to travel far from the campground to stock up on essentials for the camper rental. An array of restaurants line the shore, most of which serve fresh seafood. You'll also find options for Italian food, sushi, burgers, and much more. There are also some excellent local galleries and shops to peruse in the area, and you might end up coming back with a suitcase full of souvenirs.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
