Getting Outdoors

As we've already mentioned, Harris Beach State Park has no shortage of interesting and exciting outdoor activities. For those intrigued by the avian species of the area, Goat Island is where you want to be. Also known as Bird Island, this is the largest isle along the Oregon coast. An estimated 100,000 seabirds come here to nest or roost. Once here, you'll have no problem spotting tufted puffins, storm petrels, as well as numerous other bird species.

Take a stroll through the marine gardens, conveniently located near the campground, to observe more wonders of the coastal environment. The sea life you might see in these tide pools changes with the ebb and flow of the ocean. During low tide, you can observe hermit crabs, green anemones, and sea stars on the coast. There's also a great spot for nature photography here called Arch Rock.

Stride across or paddle along the scenic stretch of the Oregon coast. You can either join a boat or paddleboard tour with a local adventure company, or hit the Sunset Point Trail to traverse the area on foot. If you really want to tone those leg muscles, head to the 12-mile Boardman State Scenic Corridor, which connects attractions such as the Arch Rock Viewpoint, Thunder Rock Cove, and Natural Bridges.
