The Great Outdoors

Scotrun campers should explore the nearby Pocono Mountains during their stay. Big Pocono State Park is an excellent place to experience the region, with over 1,300 acres of rocky terrain and woodlands on the slopes of Camelback Mountain. This park is better for experienced hikers due to the rugged and steep trails; however, a hike to the top of the mountain is well worth it as it provides panoramic views of three states. During your hike, keep an eye out for colorful local flora, including rhododendron and lowbush blueberry. During the winter, these steep slopes become ideal for several winter sports, including downhill skiing.Another nearby state park that offers stunning views is Lehigh Gorge State Park. This 6,000-acre state park's main feature is a stark gorge created by the Lehigh River, which runs through the park's center. This a perfect hiking location, with over 30 miles of trails that lead past several enchanting waterfalls, as well as important parts of the Lehigh Canal. During your hike, watch out for local critters, including magnolia warblers, beavers, and kingfishers. The Lehigh River is an excellent location for whitewater rafting, and the river is stocked with trout, making it a favorite spot for anglers. During the winter, the park's trails are popular for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.Watersports lovers will appreciate a visit to nearby Tobyhanna State Park. This 5,400-acre park features the 170-acre Tobyhanna Lake, which is ideal for several watersports, including boating, swimming, and fishing. The park features a swimming beach, and there are over 50 spots where you can moor your boat overnight. The warm water in the lake means there's a wide array of fish species to catch, including catfish, pickerel, sunfish, and more. If you want to explore the rest of the park, there are over ten miles of rugged trails that provide a fun yet challenging hike.

Exploring the City

When you rent an RV near Scotrun, you'll be near some of the region's best cities. Scranton has some fun and unique attractions, and one of the best is the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour. This once-abandoned coal mine is now open for tours, and visitors can trek 300 feet below the surface and see what it was like to work in a coal mine. Learn the history of mining and see how it helped shape the American economy. The mine is also an excellent activity for unbearably hot summer days, as the mine stays at a cool 53 degrees Fahrenheit.Alternatively, you may want to head south and visit the vibrant city of Allentown. The city is full of culture, and this can be seen through its plethora of high-quality museums. America on Wheels Museum is a celebration of all things with wheels, from scooters to trucks to bicycles. The museum mostly hosts temporary exhibits with everything from classic 1950's cars to NASCAR racers. This museum is a must-visit for any gearheads RV camping near Allentown.Another popular museum in Allentown is the Allentown Art Museum. This museum is nearby 100 years old and was initially opened by famous local impressionist painter Walter Emerson Baum. The museum contains over 19,000 objects in its collection and has an exceptionally well-respected collection of European art. Some of the highlights from the museum's collection include works by Nelson Shanks, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Federico Barocci.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
