Creating a contrast to the prairies to the east, Black Hills National Forest is minutes away from the campground and definitely worthy of being the first stop on your travels. Rugged mountain peaks rise from the sea of ponderosa pines like islands, inviting hikers and climbers to conquer them. Admire the beauty of Spearfish Canyon and numerous waterfalls, find refreshment in one of the lakes and reservoirs, or immerse yourself in Native American history – there is no end to the exciting activities waiting in the forest. Hiking trails and scenic byways meander through the forest, giving visitors a chance to choose their favorite way of exploration. From the forest, it is convenient to visit the two incredible monuments – the Mount Rushmore National Memorial and the Crazy Horse Memorial.Another must-visit locale for outdoor enthusiasts is also in the Black Hills, and its name is Custer State Park. With such extraordinary features such as the Needles, granite spires soaring to the sky, or herds of wild buffalo roaming freely, you will want to spend every moment outside your rental RV. A land where soft meadows and tranquil lakes meet with granite peaks, it calls for Spearfish campers to go hiking, biking, and canoeing. Another exciting way to explore the park is rock climbing. If you come during the winter, you can take part in cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing. The landscape of South Dakota never ceases to amaze, and Badlands National Park is proof of that. Take your rental motorhome on a scenic drive, and you will be blown away by the beauty of the rock formations stretching for miles. Not only do they display a fantastic array of colors, but they also hide fossils dating back thousands of years. Hikers can wander among the buttes while enjoying their favorite activity, while campers can spend the night in the backcountry and enjoy the beauty of the night sky.

Exploring the Area

Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery, located just across from the campground. One of the oldest fish hatcheries in the country, it spawns and releases thousands of rainbow trout each year. Visitors can enter the Von Bayer Museum of Fish Culture and get familiar with the fish though interesting artifacts on display. If you decide to visit Rapid City, do not miss out on Reptile Gardens to see the wonderful creatures waiting inside. One of the largest reptile zoos in the world, it features the Sky Dome, a tropical jungle full of lush plants and amazing animals. You can also spend time with giant tortoises or feel the peace of the botanical gardens. The garden also organizes interactive animal shows, making it even more attractive to nature lovers. No trip to South Dakota would be complete without visiting Mount Rushmore. A widely-recognized symbol of America, it features the heads of four presidents carved into the mountain face, overlooking the stunning scenery of the Black Hills. Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
