Second only to the Alhambra as Spain’s largest Muslim construction, this imposing fortress was first built way back in the 10th century by Abderrahman III. It’s now the city’s most iconic landmark, taking pride of place overlooking Almería’s Old Town. There’s far too much history in the Alcazaba to detail here, but suffice it to say that a guided tour of this excellent attraction is essential.
