This 1,200-acre park is located near the subtropical Rio Grande and consists of wetlands and woodlands along a dry river bed. The park is part of the World Birding Center, with over 280 different species spotted in the area. Visitors can stroll down eight miles of trails, which lead along boardwalks and feature several bird blinds. While exploring the park, keep an eye out for some of the park's rare bird species, including cinnamon teals, tropical kingbirds, and barn swallows. If you get hungry or forgot your equipment, there's a visitor center where you can grab a snack and rent some binoculars.Another popular park located within the World Birding Center is the Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park. This park consists of swamps and subtropical forests overlooking the Rio Grande, and is another popular destination for wildlife watchers, with over 360 bird species and a variety of mammals inhabiting the area. The park features seven miles of trails that run along boardwalks adjacent to the river. During the spring and fall, the park plays host to thousands of migrating hawks, and there's a hawk blind high up in trees for spotting these majestic birds. This bird blind also boasts scenic views of the park and the Rio Grande.You'll no doubt want to explore the seaside when you have a motorhome rental near the Texas Gulf Coast, and anybody looking to soak up some sun should visit Andy Bowie County Park. This park is located on South Padre Island, a barrier island overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. The park is made up of seaside brush and sandy beaches and is great for a barbeque, with several picnic tables and grills dotted around the area. As you'd imagine, this area is excellent for watersports. There's a swimming area in case you want to play in the surf and a fishing area, too. There are also concession stands where you can rent equipment or grab a bite to eat.

Exploring the City

RV campers looking to experience the best attractions in the region will want to head to the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission metropolitan area. The Museum of South Texas in Edinburg is a great place to learn about local culture, and this wide-ranging museum features everything from art to history. Some of the highlights from the museum include a fossilized mammoth skeleton and a recreation of a turn-of-the-century train station. The museum also features an original jail dating back to 1910, and visitors can explore the jail and see how prisons were constructed over a century ago.Another popular museum the whole family will love is the International Museum of Art & Science in McAllen. This museum also contains a wide range of subjects, from local art to internationally renowned science projects. Visitors will be treated to images from the Hubble Telescope, a collection of Mexican and Latin American folk art, and much more when they visit. There's also a sculpture garden and science playground where kids can play and learn together.Soak up some local architecture mixed with exotic nature with a visit to Quinta Mazatlan in McAllen. This Spanish-style villa was built as a family home in the 1930s and was eventually bought by the city to serve as a bird sanctuary. Visitors can tour the grounds around the house, which are full of exotic plants, and then see inside and marvel at the house's ornate design. Over 500 different species of birds have been spotted around the home, and many rare species nest in the gardens, making this an excellent spot for birdwatchers.
