The Great Outdoors

San Benito campers will undoubtedly want to explore the nearby beaches and islands. Andy Bowie County Park is a great way to explore nearby South Padre Island. This park is located at the north end of the island and features dunes and grasslands. It's the perfect place for a picnic, with two large picnic pavilions overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. There are food concessions throughout the park, as well as stores that provide rentals, including fishing rods and kayaks. This park is superb for watersports, and there are designated areas for fishing and swimming. There are some delightful parks located inland as well, and one of the most popular state parks in the region is Rasaca de la Palma State Park. This park is a birdwatcher's paradise, as it is the location of the World Birding Center, and is a hotspot for rare species, thanks to the sub-tropical nature of the park. There are over 500 different species in the area, with some unique and vivid bird species living in the park, including red-crowned parrots, green kingfishers, and tropical kingbirds. Visitors can enter the park at the visitor center, and trek down eight miles of trails that lead through a tropical forest filled with lush palm trees and winding waterways. If you want to visit a park full of history, consider stopping by the Palo Alto Battlefield National Park. This park consists mainly of prairies and is significant as it was the location of the first battle of the Mexican-American War. Visitors can take tours of the battlefield to learn more about it and watch volunteers take part in recreations of the campaign. This park also covers over 3,400 acres of undeveloped land. After visiting the battlefield, you may want to wander down one of the park trails and keep a lookout for wildlife unique to the Rio Grande, including javelinas, jackrabbits, tortoises, and more.

Exploring the City

You'll find plenty to do while camping at Fun-N-Sun RV Resort, thanks to its proximity to the Reynosa-McAllen metropolitan area. If you're interested in learning more about the region's history, Edinburg features the Museum of South Texas History. This museum's mission is to catalog the development of southern Texas from prehistoric times to the modern-day. There are some intriguing exhibits on display at this museum, including artifacts belonging to local Native Americans, a large mosasaur fossil, and displays on the Mexican and U.S. Civil War.Another exceptional museum worth visiting is the International Museum of Art and Science in McAllen. This museum features a mixture of exhibits ranging from modern art installations to educational, scientific displays. Most of the art on display here belongs to Latin American artists, and this museum is an excellent way to learn about local artistic sensibilities. There are also images from the Hubble telescope, an enormous wind turbine blade, and much more at this eclectic museum. If you'd prefer to escape the busy streets and do something relaxing, plan a trip to the Quinta Mazatlan. This ornate Spanish-revival style mansion is surrounded by lush gardens and is used as a birding center. Visitors can tour the building's interior and then stroll through the surrounding areas to see an array of exotic birds and animals, including jaguars, ruby-throated hummingbirds, and Harris's hawks.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
