The Great Outdoors

Beautiful outdoor areas are within easy reach when you go RV camping at Winter Haven RV Resort. Nearby Boca Chica State Park is known for its pristine beaches and shouldn't be missed. Unlike many of the beaches on nearby South Padre Island, Boca Chica State Park is never particularly crowded, so you'll have space to spread out and enjoy the sunshine. It's also a popular destination for surfing, snorkeling, and fishing.Another popular outdoor destination to visit when motorhome camping in Brownsville is the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. This is a protected national habitat for hundreds of plant and wildlife species and is known for its population of ocelots. There is a trail network throughout the refuge where you can hike or bike, which is a great way to see the wildlife in the area. The refuge offers guided walking tours as well as a tram tour where you can learn more about the nature and history of the area. Hunting is also an option during certain times of the year. Several coastal areas of the refuge offer excellent opportunities for fishing. Some of the species you may find include flounder, trout, and redfish, and you may also find blue crab. There are also several spots for fishing close to Winter Haven RV Resort. The waterways that run through the resort itself are stocked with fish, so you don't necessarily have to leave your Brownsville RV park to land a great catch. Loma Alta Lake is also located close by, and it is a good place to catch largemouth bass.

Exploring The Area

Book a travel trailer rental in Cameron County, and you'll be surrounded by fun attractions. One of the most popular places to visit in Brownsville is the Gladys Porter Zoo. The zoo is home to hundreds of different animal species, and it also has an aquarium. History lovers will also want to visit the Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park. This park was the site of the Battle of Palo Alto in 1846. The park has historical displays that discuss the battle from both the American and Mexican perspectives. A network of nature walks and cycling trails runs through the park. The nearby South Padre Island area also has a lot to offer. It is a beach resort community with excellent food and nightlife, as well as amusement parks, sailing tours, and a lighthouse. Learn how to build a sandcastle, stop for a snack along the water's edge, and delve into the depths of 16th-century shipwrecks with a visit to the Treasures of the Gulf Museum in Port Isabel. Dolphin fans can embark on a boat excursion or stop by a nature center to see other marine life while brushing up on details on some of the Gulf's water creatures.Winter Haven RV Resort is conveniently located in Brownsville, so you'll never be far from any of the modern conveniences you may need while RV camping in South Texas. Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
