Facing the English Channel on the south coast of England, Bournemouth is a seaside resort famous for its seven-mile-long golden sand beach. Not only that, but Bournemouth also boasts excellent examples of Victorian architecture as well as a buzzing nightlife.

Two hours southwest of London and just seven miles east of Poole, Bournemouth is surrounded by several natural parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and significant areas listed as ancient monuments. With RV rentals in Bournemouth, you'll be able to drive to many natural sights while still enjoying the proximity of urban comforts.

Discover Bournemouth

The Great Outdoors

Some of southern England's most celebrated natural sites and parks are located less than 100 miles away from Bournemouth. One of these is the aptly named Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site just two and a half hours east in a Bournemouth RV rental. You can spend a day combing the Charmouth coast for fossils or explore the Walk Through Time to see layers of sedimentary rock dating back more than 185 million years.

From here, press on to Dartmoor National Park, 45 minutes further down the coast, or head north to Exmoor National Park, only an hour away. Both parks take pride in their wild, open moorlands and valleys; both are teeming with wildlife, and both offer plenty of outdoor adventures to get excited about. Walking, cycling, horseback riding, camping, and canoeing are just some of the most popular activities here. Exmoor National Park in particular is renowned for its remote, rugged, and bush-clad coastline. In some places, the park's physical features are some of the oldest on earth, at 200 million years old.

Much closer to Bournemouth are several AONBs: Dorset, Blackdown Hills, East Devon, Cranborne Chase, and the Isle of Wight. The New Forest National Park is closest, just half an hour drive northeast in your Bournemouth camper rental.

Dorset is famous for its coastal cliffs; Blackdown Hills for its lack of major towns and cities and its consequently serene atmosphere; East Devon for its geologic records spanning 415 million years of Earth's history; and Cranborne Chase for its ancient woodlands and open countryside views of rolling hills and chalk escarpments. The New Forest is best known for its thousands of native wild ponies that graze in the open forest. Originally the hunting grounds of William the Conqueror, The New Forest is now a protected natural area. The Isle of Wight AONB is just a ferry ride across the water and celebrated for its breathtaking white cliffs that shine under the UK’s typically dark skies. A short distance offshore is The Needles, a row of three chalk stacks that protrude from the water, waiting to take down inexperienced sailors.

Camping in Bournemouth

The closest campground to Bournemouth is St. Leonard’s Farm Caravan and Camping Park in the small town of Ferndown. Situated a short drive from Bournemouth’s beaches, St. Leonard’s Farm comes complete with all the comforts of home, including hot showers, flush toilets, and electric hookups. The campground welcomes pets and is convenient to restaurants, shops, and pubs.

While there are no caravan parks in Bournemouth town center, you'll find a few in Christchurch, 16 miles east. This area is most suitable for a luxury RV rental in Bournemouth, given Christchurch’s upmarket feel. Harrow Wood Farm and Caravan Park is an excellent option for nature lovers, with its own fishing lake and walking trail that wanders past the farm animals. Amenities include electric hookups, pump showers, restrooms, and laundry facilities. Harrow Wood enjoys a serene setting in the New Forest just a few miles from Christchurch.

Exploring the City

Bournemouth made its start as a Victorian health resort town. Not surprisingly, many spas and beauty boutiques have since sprung up to soothe the aches of visitors attracted to Bournemouth's glorious sandy beaches and enjoy the rollicking nightlife in the city’s nightclubs, bars, pubs, and music venues. If you happen to be visiting in late May, then don’t miss the Bournemouth 7s Sport and Music Festival.

Let the bright colored Yellow Buses and Morebus take you around town while your Bournemouth rental RV is safely parked in Christchurch. Stroll through the town's main gardens in the square, which doubles as the entry point to Bournemouth Pier. Kids of all ages are sure to love the waterfront penny arcades on the pier. The Triangle is accessed via the Commercial Road from the square and is more of a specialist shopping center. Boutiques and cafes occupy Westbourne along Seamoor Road, while antique shops are the main feature of Boscombe, to the east.

Not to be overlooked, Bournemouth's Victorian landmarks are an attraction all their own, in particular, St. Peter's Church and the buildings in the main shopping area of Old Christchurch Road. Meanwhile, sports fans will want to make a trip to Dean Court, home of the Premier League team, A.F.C. Bournemouth, one of the oldest teams in England.

Bournemouth has a modest collection of museums and galleries worth at least a bit of your holiday time. The Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum has a collection of Japanese artifacts and other eclectic items that the original owners of the opulent mansion amassed throughout their travels.

What kind of memories are you going to collect on your travels? Why not plan your own adventure? Book an RV in Bournemouth and steal away to the sunny South East coast.
