The Great Outdoors

The Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is one of 46 AONBs in England. It's over 76 square miles of protected woodlands full of amazing wildlife and a vast variety of plants. Several hiking trails that vary in difficulty wind their way through this outdoor oasis, but one major 50-mile walk takes three days to complete. This trail takes you all the way through the Mendip Hills and allows you to see just about everything in the region. Visitors make it a point to stop at Cheddar Gorge to marvel at the majestic landscape.

Camping in Mendip

When renting a caravan in the Somerset area, you’ll have a couple of options where you can post up. Petruth Paddocks is located in the town of Cheddar, just outside of the Mendip Hills AONB, and is an excellent place to set up camp in the area. Grassy and hardstanding sites are available for tent and motorhome camping. It's also a dog- and family-friendly establishment with pubs and restaurants nearby. Petruth Paddocks provides toilets, a washing-up station, and hot showers for guests. Wi-Fi is also available.

Exploring the City

Mendip District covers a lot of ground, so you'll find tons of things to see from Lydford-on-Fosse to Farleigh Hungerford. Renting a caravan in the Mendips is the best way to see as much as you can. Glastonbury Abbey is one of the oldest and most legendary abbeys in all of England, as it's the burial place of the famed King Arthur. Take a walk through the grounds and enjoy the ancient architecture that surrounds you. Try and decipher the difference between its rich history, its legends, and its myths.

Great fun, easy and quick to pickup and return the van. great MPG and a good size to allow you to visit just about anywhere you wish to. Although the pick up was no where near where we live it's so centrally located that it allows for trips in all directions. I would definitely (and have) recommended booking from Southampton Campers again

Brilliant! We've just returned from a 5 day mini tour of N Devon and Cornwall in 'Spike'. The booking process is very easy and Nic was always available to answer any questions as well as keep us informed the nearer our booking got. Check in and drop off were also very straight forward and quick especially if you watch the informative check in video link Nic sends you before. We are a middle aged couple (!) and it was our first time taking a campervan holiday (although in our youth we used to sleep in our car on holiday!!) and we both agreed 'Spike' made it very easy to enjoy. Jurassic Vans had literally thought of everything to make 'Spike' comfortable, cosy and practical as well as a lot of fun. The king size bed was so comfortable and the fact that you could turn the front two seats around made the living space even bigger. The weather wasn't that kind to us the week we were out in 'Spike' so we didn't get a chance to use the shower, sit up on the roof or star gaze but that just gives us an excuse to return! Thank you Nic and Matt.
