Exploring the Area
Visitors will discover many unique destinations to explore while in the area. One to drive your motorhome to is the Escalante Petrified Forest. Located in Escalante, this stunning natural landmark features hundreds of fossils, dinosaur bones, and colorful petrified wood pieces. You’ll find many trails to explore that curve through the forest, giving you stunning views of the surrounding landscape. There’s also a visitor center park-goers can stop by to learn more about the history of the forest and view some exhibits that house historical artifacts.In Cedar City, there’s the Frontier Homestead State Park Museum. This museum is dedicated to informing guests more about the pioneers who settled in the state during the 1800s. Inside you’ll find numerous exhibits filled with various items, like saddles, tools, and clothing. There’s also a photography collection that highlights the changing landscape of the area. The Frontier Homestead State Park Museum is connected to the Cedar City Livestock Trail, which was used by farmers to move their livestock through the city so they wouldn’t become a nuisance in the roads.About two hours away in St. George is Snow Canyon State Park. This state park is best known for its red and white sandstone canyons that are part of the Red Mountains. It’s also filled with sand dunes, lava flows, cinder cones, hiking trails, and picnic areas. The Red Cliffs National Conservation Area also has impressive rock formations that tower above the hiking and cycling trails paved below it.There is one gas station located near Otter Creek Reservoir, but it is only a few minutes away. You’ll also find there aren’t many restaurants nearby, so if you’d like to grab a bite to eat, you’ll need to venture out to a nearby city. Some snacks and dishes the area is best known for include raspberries, fry sauce, and pastrami burgers.
