The Great Outdoors

Somerset campers will want to explore the serene St. Croix River while camping at Apple River Family Campground. One of the best ways to experience the river is by visiting William O Brien State Park. This park covers over 1,500 acres along the Minnesota side of the St. Croix River and consists mainly of grasslands and forests. This area is exceptionally beautiful, thanks to wildflower blooms and an abundance of wildlife. Twelve miles of trails lead along the river, where you can experience this beauty firsthand. If you want to make the most of the river, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing are all possible here.Another park worth visiting when renting an RV near Somerset is Willow River State Park. This park is located at another nearby river and offers roughly 3,000 acres of vibrant prairies and woodlands coupled with stunning river views. There are 13 miles of trails to explore, which mainly lead along the river. This park features a breathtaking waterfall, Willow Falls, which is a popular destination for hikers. Unfortunately, you can't swim in the river due to strong currents; however, other activities such as kayaking and canoeing are possible. Fishing is another favorite pastime and catches include panfish, trout, and bass.Kinnickinnic State Park is also a popular park along the St. Croix River. This park is located where two rivers meet, which has created a large sandy embankment; it's a favorite spot for swimmers. Other watersports such as boating, canoeing, and kayaking are popular, and fishing is possible, with this river being well known for an abundance of large walleye. If you'd rather stay away from the water, there are over nine miles of trails to explore that lead through nearby fields and woodlands. Pets are welcome, too, so your pup can help you check out this wonderful park.

Exploring the City

During your motorhome rental vacation near the St. Croix River, you'll want to plan a trip to Minneapolis. Minneapolis is one of the biggest cities in Minnesota and is only about 45 minutes' drive from the Apple River Family Campground. There are some world-class museums in Minneapolis, including the Minneapolis Institute of Art. This beautiful Greek Renaissance-style museum houses roughly 90,000 pieces of art from around the world, spanning 5,000 years of history. There's a wide array of different disciplines on display, from textiles to photography to paintings. There are some world-famous pieces of art here too, including Olive Trees by Vincent van Gogh, and Lucretia by Rembrandt. If you're looking for an excursion your children will love, consider taking a trip to Edinborough Park. This large indoor play area features an acre of climbing frames, slides, ball pits, and much more. As it's indoors, this is the perfect activity for a rainy day, and while the kids are playing, adults can use in the on-site swimming pool or watch a show at the amphitheater. While in Minnesota, you may also want to visit St Paul, one of the Twin Cities. The Como Park Zoo and Conservatory is a mixture of animal exhibits and lavish botanical gardens located within a large greenhouse. As well as having some amazing gardens, there are some fantastic critters on display, making this zoo one of the best in the region. Some of the animals you can expect to see during your visit include gorillas, polar bears, and giraffes.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
