Outdoorsy Owner Brian Smith and his wife Dorene have always been campers. “We married back in 1996 and tent camped until we bought a pop-up camper in 1998,” Brian explains. “In 2000, we traded that for a Kiwi Hybrid Travel Trailer which we kept until 2017. We then traded the trailer for the Winnebago Class A we own now.”
“Our Class A is spacious and comfortable, and we love being able to utilize much of the rig while traveling,” Brian says.
Planting an idea
As much as the Smiths love camping, it never even occurred to them to share that love through renting their RV. Brian recalls the day he first thought about renting his rig: “I saw a Facebook ad for Outdoorsy. I had never contemplated renting before that.” Once the idea was planted in their heads, it didn’t take long before the couple had their motorhome listed on the Outdoorsy site.
Amazing service
It took a month or so before anyone booked their RV, but once someone did, the Smiths quickly learned just how well Outdoorsy treats their owners and renters. “Our first renter’s deposit didn’t go through, [but] Outdoorsy stepped in and resolved the issue quickly so our customers could enjoy their trip,” Brian says.
Building it up
Since that first rental, Brian and Dorene have rented their rig about a dozen times and have brought in around $4,500 in profit.
How do they keep the renters coming? Well, it’s a lot simpler than you might think.
“We treat each renter with kindness,” Brian says. “We offer quick communication and friendly service.” So far, that seems to be doing the trick for their rental business.
What the Smiths love
There is a lot to love about Outdoorsy, and if you ask the Smiths, they’ll confirm that’s true.
“We love the DMV license check Outdoorsy does,” Brian adds. He also shared that, because of the extra income he’s made since listing his RV on Outdoorsy, he’s planning an escape of his own.
“With the profits of this summer’s rentals, we are headed to South Texas at the end of December,” he says.
