Owner of the Week: Heather Gorman

As a stay-at-home mom to three young kids, Heather Gorman was on the lookout for ways to earn money without going into an office. When her family rented an RV and loved it, she saw an opportunity to allow her family to enjoy RVing regularly while also bringing in that elusive extra income.

“We bought our RV with the hope of being able to rent it out,” Heather shares. “We wanted to find something I could do from home to bring in some extra spending cash.” Renting through Outdoorsy was the ideal solution.

The business was dubbed Over the Moon RV Rentals, and the family’s personal rig was listed on the Outdoorsy website. It didn’t take long for the new business to take off and soar. “We started small, with just one RV,” says Heather. “We thought we would maybe make enough to buy new camping equipment or supplies. Never did we expect to be so popular.”

Since then, the small business has completed a total of 70 rentals and has another 29 scheduled. What’s more, while many businesses have been knocked down by recent events, Over the Moon RV Rentals just keeps chugging along.

“When the pandemic hit, we had been looking into doing RV rentals full-time,” explains Gorman. “The original plan was to work up to it over a few years. However, when my husband lost his job because of the pandemic, we decided to make a leap of faith and bought two additional RVs, bringing us up to 5.”

This might seem like a crazy move, but it was the right one. “It’s been going great,” Heather tells us. “Our renters are grateful for a way to get out while staying safe. We are very optimistic we can grow our business more over the next year.”
