Brown University Tailgating

Event information

From August until January every year, the City of Providence is alive with the sound of Brown University attendants and their families piling into Browns Stadium for a much-anticipated game of football. While other sports, such as Lacrosse, have been played at the stadium in the past, it predominantly caters to the Brown Bears football team and their 20,000-plus fans.

The Brown Bears form part of the Ivy League conference and are headed by their beloved mascot Bruno. You may find Bruno cheering on the crowds while they sing their fight song Brown University Alma Mater and a tune that leads them to victory, Brown Cheering Song.

Spectators get equally as excited about Bears football games as the team does. They put on their best brown, red, white, and black supporter’s gear and head to the tailgating lot before the game begins. Here, they spend time with other fans before congregating in the stands to watch the cheerleaders and the commencement of the game.

The Brown Bears have won the Ivy League title several times, further entrenching them as a football team that promotes stiff competition. However, Browns University produces standout athletes in other areas, too.

Brown Bears is the collective name for the basketball, soccer, rugby, baseball, rowing, and ice hockey teams representing the school. No matter which game you attend, you’ll be on the edge of your seat for much of it.

An RV trip to Providence, Rhode Island, will start or end your year on the right foot. It’s time to haul your motorhome out of storage, throw on your best road trip tunes, and get going. The Brown Bears wait for no one.

Driving

Providence in Rhode Island is one of the most populated cities in the state, nestled between Massachusetts and Connecticut. The main routes to get to and from the city are I-95 and I-195, while RI-145 connects Providence directly to Worcester, Massachusetts.

The haphazard design of the streets, with over 1,000 of them in total, means that RV travelers visiting Rhode Island for a Brown Bears game will need to keep their wits about them. A traffic site like RI DOT can alert you to any congestion and road closures in the region.

The best way to enter Brown Stadium is via Elmgrove Avenue, but it’s worth first finding somewhere to park your motorhome with enough time to spare before the game begins.

Parking areas

Daytime car parking passes are available for Brown Bears games in Lot A by Brown Stadium when you buy your tickets online. Remaining spaces will be on a first-in, first-served basis, but RVs are prohibited unless by a prior written arrangement. Some campervans and smaller units may fit regulations for onsite parking.

Those traveling in motorhomes may be able to find on-street parking near the stadium, but look out for signs and parking restrictions. Many game attendees prefer to make use of public transportation, rather than encounter hassles related to a lack of parking.

Alternatively, fans can arrange for pick-up and drop-off services courtesy of local taxi and rideshare service providers.
