Fun Spot America - Kissimmee

Get the family in the RV and head to Kissimmee to ride the world’s tallest skycoaster or Fun Spot’s other 26 rides with tons of fun for all.

Event information

Kissimmee is the largest city in Osceola County and has several parks including Makinson Island, Shingle Creek, and Kissimmee Lakefront Park. But the funnest spot in Kissimmee, Florida is officially called Fun Spot Kissimmee, which makes sense because it loaded with fun for every guest.

Located in central Florida, the park has 26 rides and the tallest sky coaster in the world. The biggest thrill of all is that admission to the park is free for those who are not riding rides. No need to shell out a bunch of money just to walk around with the kids. Oh, and the furbabies are welcome, too.

Fun Spot Kissimmee has been thrilling its visitors since 1988 and is just one of three family parks that include Fun Spot Orlando and Fun Spot Atlanta. Not only do they have the world’s tallest sky coaster but it also has the only wood roller coaster that goes upside down in the southeastern US.

Just minutes from Walt Disney World and many other theme parks, Fun Spot Kissimmee also has go-kart tracks as well as free access to Gator Spot in Orlando, about eight miles to the northeast. The 110-acre alligator capital of the world even has a petting zoo and animal shows.

Some of the rides that visitors can enjoy at Fun Spot Kissimmee include the five-story roller coaster, Hurricane; 80-foot high inversion coaster, Mine Blower; and the Screamer, which goes up and down at will. The little thrill seekers will love the Kiddie Coaster, Castlemania, Scooby Boo, and Kiddie Bumper Kars. Head over to the Midway for some carnival games like Balloon Bust and Water Gun Fun before grabbing some grub on the go and then perusing the souvenirs at the gift shops and kiosks.

Tickets

The park is absolutely free to get in! Really! Free. The only ones who have to pay are those who want to ride the rides. And those Fun Spot America Kissimmee tickets are very reasonable compared to the big theme parks. At about $45 per person, visitors can enjoy all the rides including the go-karts, thrill rides, and even includes the Fun Spot Orlando park that has the Gator Spot park, too.

Transportation

Driving

Nine miles from Kissimmee and 20 miles from Orlando, Fun Spot Kissimmee is in the middle of Florida on US-192 off of I-4. The roads are all well cared for and level highways that are easy to maneuver no matter what size RV you are driving or pulling. Although it is close to a major tourist spot, Fun Spot is a bit off on its own away from the hustle and bustle of the major traffic.

Parking areas

With over 500 parking spots in the main lot and over 200 more reserved for passholders, there should be no trouble for smaller vehicles to find a spot. For those who are camping in an RV nearby, plan to bring tow vehicle or review public transportation schedules if driving a larger rig to the park is not an option.

Public Transportation

If you are camping in Orlando or another campground in the area, don’t worry, the public transportation system in this section of Florida is awesome. The SunRail or Amtrak from Orlando to the Lynx bus number 50 or 56 is one way to get there. Or you can take Greyhound to the Lynx bus number 407 to 55. Coming from further away like Tampa? No problem. Greyhound to the Lynx bus numbers 48/49, 50, and 56 will get you there too. RVers often use rideshare apps, which is faster and can be a better option for those who don’t want to wait for the bus.

Where to stay

Onsite

Although staying at Fun Spot Kissimmee would be… fun, they just do not offer that option. Yet. Maybe they will someday. However, being in a touristy area pays off because travelers can find dozens of Orlando RV campgrounds, both private and public (state parks) in the immediate vicinity.

Nearby

The closest RV campsite is actually less than a mile from the park. Tropical Palms RV Resort has 69 acres with over 300 pet-friendly sites that can accommodate RVs up to 99 feet with full hookups, a pool, café, live entertainment, and more.

Another excellent spot to stay is the Orlando / Kissimmee KOA Campground, which has 70 pet-friendly sites that can handle rigs up to 134 feet long. The campground is only four miles from the park and has a pool, hot tub, bike rentals, free Wi-Fi and cable, and a playground for the kiddos. Also, they are on the bus route so getting to the park is easy. Lake Louisa State Park, 11 miles away, also has 54 pet-friendly campsites right on the lake.

Getting around

Because the parking lot is not a long walk away, tram service or shuttles are not offered. However, for guests with special mobility needs, Scooterbug Mobility offers both manual and electric wheelchairs for rent inside the park. For those with young children, Scooterbug Mobility also has stroller rentals. These are all on a first-come, first-served basis so they are not guaranteed. Visitors are also welcome to bring their wheelchair or stroller from home.

What to pack

Clothing

No matter what time of year you visit Fun Spot Kissimmee, it is Florida so bring summer clothing. Items such as shorts, t-shirts, and tank tops are popular with most of the park guests. However, it can get a bit chilly from December through March, so bring some warm clothes too if visiting during that time of year. Comfortable shoes are an important choice as well since you will be doing a lot of walking.

Gear

Fun Spot Kissimmee does not offer lockers for rent, so visitors have to make sure to have a plan for someone who is not riding the rides to hold their belongings when riding. If possible, just use a fanny pack or pockets to carry whatever is needed for your park visit. Guests often find that all they need is a wallet, keys, and cell phone.

Health & Safety

Visitors are allowed to bring in a bottle of water as long as it is sealed, so make sure to bring one to stay hydrated in the Florida sun. Speaking of sun, be sure to bring some sunscreen and wear sunglasses and a hat to protect you from those rays. A small trial-sized bottle of sunscreen will fit in a pocket or fanny pack and can be a lifesaver, especially for individuals prone to sunburn. A pocket-sized first-aid kit is also a great idea.

Where to eat

Cooking

Experienced RVers know that it is always important to do an inventory check before heading out on a road trip. Some of the items to stock up on include cooking tools, foil, paper products, cooking spray, and dish soap. Trash bags, food storage bags, a washbasin, a drying rack, and antibacterial wipes are also important. Don’t forget the sugar and your favorite spices.

Restaurants

Thinking about taking the family out for a nice meal? Head up I-4 about six miles to the north in Lake Buena Vista where there is a group of restaurants to peruse. A southern barbecue joint, tropical-style café, and even a dinosaur-themed dining room are just a few of the picks. There is even a celebrity chef’s restaurant in the group where you will probably need a reservation. To the west about a mile, visitors can find an Italian place and a few fast-food drive-thru places.

Vendors

Although Fun Spot Kissimmee is rather small with only a few eateries, they have a wide variety of carnival favorites. The food trailer has barbecue, corn dogs, and burgers to name a few, and the snack bar has indoor eating space with pizza, hot dogs, and snacks. Throughout the park, visitors can find several other food kiosks and stands with fried Oreos and other items like funnel cake, ice cream, and other yummy snacks. Be sure to grab some souvenirs or gifts for the folks back home before leaving the park.

Safety

Security

Security is important at Fun Spot Kissimmee, so make sure to follow the rules and check for prohibited items. Bags may be checked at any time during your visit and security staff has the right to ask anyone to leave if they are not following the rules. Although it may seem obvious, it is important to note that guests should not bring alcohol, weapons, or drugs to the park.

Weather

Central Florida has a warm climate throughout most of the year, but the summer months from May through September are the warmest with highs in the 90s and lows in the 70s. For those who prefer the cooler weather, plan your RV visit during the cooler months from October through March. The temps during this time are typically in the lower 70s for highs and 50s for lows. Rain is a common occurrence from June until September, usually in the afternoons.

Medical

If you or someone you are with needs medical attention, contact one of the staff members or call 911. There are no official first-aid stations, but the staff can contact emergency help if needed and if you are unable. In addition, you can find a local hospital and a few urgent care facilities nearby.
