Located near Reidsville, just off US Highway 280, Georgia, this 662-acre state park is easily accessible for RVs/trailers and features a 12-acre lake, eight cottages, RV and trailer campsites equipped with full and partial hookups, tent and walk-in campsites, dump station, swimming pool, three boat docks, a beaver dam observation deck, tennis court, picnic shelters, a group shelter, a Splash Pad, playground, outdoor fitness equipment, and Wi-Fi available in the park office & golf course clubhouse.

The unusual name of this state park - Gordonia-Alatamaha - comes from the rare Gordonia tree combined with the original spelling of the nearby Altamaha River. The alatamaha tree, which is known today as Franklinia, once grew in this area of Georgia. Discovered by the famous botanist William Bartram, it was last documented in the wild in 1803.

Driving

Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park is located near Reidsville, just off US Highway 280, Georgia, and is hence a simple drive-in park that is easily accessible for RVs, trailers, and other motorized vehicles. Local paved roads within the park link the major areas and sites of interest. There are no driving restrictions within the park.

Parking

There are three parking areas available for RVs, trailers, and cars in Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park. You’ll find two parking lots around the picnic shelters by the pedal boat dock in the park. One parking lot is located at the golf course just around the Clubhouse. Overnight parking is available for RV campers in the park.

Public Transportation

There are no public transportation facilities available at Gordonia-Alatahama State Park.

Gordonia-Alatamaha Campground

Gordonia-Alatamaha Campground in Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park features 29 pet-friendly campsites available for RVs and tents. 11 of the campsites are designated as premium campsites while the remaining 18 campsites are standard campsites. Full RV hookups (electric, water, and sewer hookups) are available in eight of the 11 premium campsites while only electric and water hookups are available in the remaining three premium campsites and the 18 standard campsites. One of the campsites in the campground is ADA accessible. RV length limit at the campground is 45 feet. Playground, comfort station, picnic tables, fire grills, trailer dump station, and waterfront access are available at the campground. The campsites in the campground are shaded.

In-Season

Golfing

The most common feature and attraction of Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park is the 18-hole golf course designed by Denis Griffiths. The golf course presents a challenging, yet fun test of golf for RV campers and visitors at the park. Campers who love golfing definitely enjoy memorable playing experiences at Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park.

The Par 71 layout plays to just under 7,000 yards from the tips, boasting five sets of tees. The signature 15th hole is a 207-yard Par 3, which plays over scenic wetlands to a large, undulating island green. A 1,500-yard winding bridge connects the original holes with the back nine.

Boating

Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park features a 12-acre lake that is open to RV campers who love to enjoy boating activities. Private boats are allowed on the lake; hence RV campers can come to the park with their boats attached to their RVs. However, only electric motor boats are allowed. Boat rentals are also available in the park. Kayak, Stand-Up Paddleboard & Aquacycle rentals are available in the park too. The park features three boat docks by the lake, one of which is a pedal boat dock.

Hiking

Pack your hiking boots on your RV trip to Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park to enjoy hiking on the one mile of nature trail available to RV campers and visitors in the park. Hikers enjoy scenic views of the natural features in the park along the trails and are offered opportunities to take photographs of the distinct features that characterize the park. In terms of difficulty, the nature trail is an easy-to-moderate trail to hike.

Picnicking

Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park is a great destination for picnics. As a result, RV campers take advantage of the several picnic shelters and facilities available in the park to enjoy their meals with family and friends. The picnic shelters are conveniently located around playgrounds in the park and along the shores of the 12-acre lake to enhance the recreational activities of campers. A swimming pool is available around one of the picnic areas for RV campers who would love to enjoy a swim.

Geocaching

Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park is a well-loved destination for lovers of geocaching. With caches hidden across the park, campers on RV holiday set out to find these caches while enjoying the thrill of the search and discovery of places where they would otherwise not have been in the park. Finding the caches in the park can vary from easy to very difficult, adding to the thrill for cache seekers.

Beaver Dam Observation

A beaver dam observation deck in Gordonia-Alatahama State Park offers RV campers wonderful views of beaver dams on the lake in the park. These dams built by beavers create ponds as protection against predators such as coyotes, wolves, and bears, and provide easy access to food during winter. This wonderful species and its handiwork are a sight to behold at the park.
