New England Patriots Tailgating

Sports-minded RVers are invited to join the huddle at a New England Patriots tailgating event. Set the GPS for Boston and start packing for fun.

Event information

Set your sights on the New England Patriots Hall of Fame and take part in a tailgating party you won’t soon forget. Food, fun, and a fantastic time await at Gillette Stadium, where the pregame festivities are second to none. Plan your menu, stock the RV fridge with tailgate-worthy snacks and beverages, and get ready to practice your gameday cheers.

Look out for jersey number 1, sported by Pat Patriot, the enthusiastic mascot of the team. He is a Superbowl star and knows his way around the field. The cheerleaders will be on the premises, too, ready to get the fans into kickoff form. Encourage your favorite kicker, linebacker, or quarterback to lead them to a victorious finish.

Be sure to make time to visit Patriot Place, especially the museum, called The Hall at Patriot Place. National sports stores make for excellent shopping opportunities for souvenirs, clothing, and memorabilia.

If you want to get in a hike or two while in Foxborough and surrounding areas, F. Gilbert Hills State Forest is the place to go. It covers over 1,000 acres and has trails spanning 23 miles. Take a mini-road trip and stop to explore the Southern New England Trunkline Trail, which runs through six towns in the region.

Tickets

To see this Superbowl winning team, fans purchase tickets well in advance. Gameday prices will vary depending on the seating you choose and how well the team is doing in the rankings. A mid-season game can run around $300 and even more if you want a premium ticket.

Transportation

Driving

Head southwest from Downtown Boston, and you’ll arrive at the Gillette Stadium in no time. Your route may include I-95, which runs close to Foxborough. Route 1 will get you in the proximity of the stadium. Mass511 is the site to check for traffic accident details and weather-related incidents that may slow you down.

Parking areas

If you don’t mind parking in the delayed exit lot, you can register to leave your rig there during the game free of charge. Take a look around Patriot Place after the game, and leave after the crowds. Overnight parking is not permitted in any of the parking lots. ADA spaces fill up quickly, so be sure to get there in plenty of time to secure a spot. Check the New England Patriots website to verify which lot options will be available to park your RV in for the tailgating fun. Lots open four hours before game time.

Public Transportation

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority commuter line conveniently stops within walking distance of Gillette Stadium. The Foxborough station is where you disembark and start gameday with Pat Patriot and the team’s massive fanbase. Other options for avoiding the busy parking lots are taxi and ridesharing services.

Where to stay

Onsite

Although you cannot park your rig for the night at Gillette Stadium, there are great campgrounds nearby. Decide with the family which type of overnight experience is sought, and make a decision from there. Options are a state park, KOA, privately owned RV resort, or casual campground suitable for tents, campervans, and large motorhomes. Boston is a short drive away, as are Taunton and Middleborough.

Nearby

Whether your taste is a fully decked out RV resort, a smaller family-oriented campground, or a spacious state-owned spot to claim, you’ll find it all in Massachusetts. Nature lovers will want to explore this scenic region to find the best hiking, boating, and bird watching available. If you are attending a late summer or fall football game, check out Massasoit State Park, which boasts six natural lakes. Year-round sites are open and ready at Scusset Beach State Reservation. Camp here to be near the ocean.

Getting around

Patriots Stadium is well-versed in ADA requirements, allowing for easy access to games. Wheelchairs are not available to rent. Still, there is adequate seating for patrons who need assistance, as well as for their companions. When tailgating, patrons in attendance should don their comfiest walking shoes. The hike from the tailgate party to your seat could be lengthy.

What to pack

Clothing

Your apparel will be based on the weather conditions, but no matter the temperature, be sure to sport the Patriot colors of blue, red, and silver. A warm gameday calls for a t-shirt and shorts or jeans. A cold-season kickoff means that a jacket, wool hat, mittens, and boots are in store.

Gear

RVing is all about convenience and the joy of spending time in the great outdoors. Plan your trip well and include all the basics to ensure a smooth trip. Items to remember are hoses, screws, clamps, wrenches, and a hammer for easy hookup sessions. Keep the kitchen well-equipped with campfire-worthy pots and pans. Sturdy, unbreakable dishes for eating are ideal, and don’t forget essentials like toiletries, batteries, and a trusty flashlight.

Health & Safety

Heavy-duty bug spray is a must for camping in the forests of Massachusetts to keep the bugs at bay. Sunscreen is another all-important item, even for a football game in cold weather. The sun’s rays are intense, no matter the season. Stay hydrated throughout the day and remind the kiddos, too, who may not want to stop their activities on the beach or during a forest hike.

Where to eat

Cooking

Plan on easy to grill menu items like burgers and hotdogs for your tailgate experience at the New England Patriots Gillette Stadium. Charcoal grills and fire burning devices that keep the flames contained are allowed. All grills must be moveable in the event of an emergency. Back at camp, adhere to safety rules at all times, and comply with fire bans when required.

Restaurants

Dozens of restaurants line the streets near Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. If you are craving an after-game snack, consider ribs, poutine, pizza, or a savory pasta dish. Go for a quick bite or enjoy a sit-down meal and enjoy time to discuss each play on the field in great detail. Food reviews of the neighborhood restaurants are nothing short of excellent.

Vendors

Patriot Place is the ideal location to head to for a bite before or after the game. The dining options are endless, as is the selection of stores in which to shop. Toys, sporting goods, house and home, and pharmacy needs can be purchased here. If you are looking for Patriots apparel and memorabilia, you will find that here, too.

Safety

Security

Security staff members will be on hand to ensure that tailgating patrons do not bring kegs into the parking lots. Outside caterers are not allowed, so be sure to pack your own tailgating gear and food. Expect to go through a screening process as you pass through the entrance gates on your way to the stands before game time.

Weather

Depending on the time of year that you attend the game, you may have to contend with some cold weather. Dress appropriately for the day, and be sure to wear warm clothing. Layering is the best option. Stock your motorhome with warm blankets and top up the propane before leaving home. At the same time, verify your water supply and check all battery levels.

Medical

Ask stadium personnel for information on the first-aid stations when you arrive at the game. They are located both inside and at one of the parking lots if need be. You can bring your identifiable service dog to the game, so be sure to bring along a bowl to keep them hydrated. All RVs need a first-aid kit; make sure that yours contains band-aids, tape, gauze, tweezers, scissors, and antibiotic cream.
