Scusset Beach State Reservation is located near the small town of Sagamore Beach in Massachusetts. The nearest larger town is Wareham, which is found less than 20 miles to the west. The nearest large city is the Boston metro area, at a little less than 60 miles to the northwest, while Providence, the capital of Rhode Island, is almost equidistant to the west.

This portion of the state is fairly rural and forested compared to the busier, more urban areas found nearby. The park is located on the shores of Cape Cod Bay near where the Cape Cod Canal opens into the bay. It is situated on the mainland, just before reaching the peninsula that extends out into the Atlantic Ocean. Numerous activities can be enjoyed here including water sports, hiking, and sightseeing.

The Miles Standish State Forest is located nearby, as well. Here you will find trails for hiking and biking. These can also be used for winter activities, such as cross-country skiing, when snow is on the ground. This is a prime area for viewing local wildlife, and it is known for the fall colors it displays during the autumn months.

Exploring the Area

This is believed to be the location where the pilgrims first arrived in the New World.

If you enjoy scenic drives, check out Route 6A (The Old King's Highway). It runs for almost 60 miles from Sandwich, near the mainland, all the way to Provincetown, on the tip of Cape Cod. Along its length, you will make your way through some of the country's oldest villages. Scenic views of the shoreline can easily be enjoyed, as well, and you may spot some lighthouses.
